Just got a shipping notice for my Ritter BK12!

So, the real question is, do I put Ka Bar Micartas on order TKC Coyote scales?

here is a pic of my Bk24 to hold you over

WooHoo!

If the new BK12's are still using the larger Camillus-style scales, you'll find the Micarta's a bit slimmer, more like the original KaBar scales.

But I found the BK15/16/17 TKC scales to be even slimmer than the originals. So, if that holds true for the larger BK TKC scales, it may come down to your hand size and which fits you better.

If you have large hands, you may feel you need liners with the TKCs, so I'd recommend the Micarta's. But then, liners aren't that hard to make ... or buy.

The Heft 4 is beefy. I haven't pushed it yet, bought it on sale for $115 the same time I bought the Hest 6. At the same time I pre ordered an Esee 4 SS. I feel the Esee is better for cutting, the DPx will handle abuse maybe better, but I don't think I can break that Esee

Alright! Can't wait for these pics to crank up! How about a safe queen head count?

So is the Ritter RSK MK2 the same thing as a BK 12? I suppose I should already know that but I do not.

The rsk was produced by Rowan I think for Becker knives. Also has some balancing weights in the handle. This one might be made by kabar with or without the weights

Yes. BK12 aka Doug Ritter RSK Mk2 Perseverance

It's a KnifeWorks Exclusive - http://www.knifeworks.com/dougritterrskmk2perseverance.aspx

It's a collaboration between Ethan and Doug and is made by Rowen for Doug.

Anyone know how it got deemed the BK12? Please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe "BK12" is more of an honorary title than an actual name as I've only seen it mentioned as such on these forums.

Mine will definitely get used. Thinking about stripping it, but if the finish looks like an Esee, I'll leave it on

Kayla contacted me, the 12 is on the way, very happy.

The RSK will be a safe queen. It has my sons name/initials on it (which is the same as mine) and it's a blade I want to give him when he hits his teens. (He's only 5 now).

But I will grab myself another on the next run, and if not I have every other Becker blade to use (except the brute).

Only Rowen has made these AFAIK; part of the deal with cost & availability. The weights are part of the design (Doug's idea) and can't be used if one gets Micarta (unless you modify the slabs). IMO, the extra heft of the Micarta balances the knife just fine. Gratz to all that are getting one of these....but I vote a hearty NO to safe queens for this knife. Far and away one of my favorite users.

As has been noted, the BK 12 designation was originally assigned by Camillus back when this project first started. Obviously slotted in between the BK 11 and BK 13. Other than some prototypes, Camillus never made any production versions and neither did KA-BAR who graciously allowed us to produce this with Rowen as the manufacturer. Thanks to all who are enjoying my and Ethan's collaboration.

Awesome, thanks for the clarification Doug, and others who responded with more knowledge than me! I don't leave home without mine in my edc bag.

This is great news about the 12 becoming ready to order. I love the info in this thread and hearing directly from Douglas Ritter.
