OK. after getting back from deer season in Texas( got a nice 8 pt.) I decided to clean out my kydex sheath. Well tried to just rinse it out and didn't work. Still lots of grit. I use my rc-4 for food all the time so I wanted this thing clean. In comes the dishwasher. Well I pulled the screws and placed it in. Making sure to keep it on the normal temp setting. Well I forgot to turn off the Heated dry. Apparently that is a pretty damned hot setting. Well I took it out and it had spread apart significantly at the spine. :eek:Is it possible for me to reheat the kydex in the oven and reform it or should i just shell out for a new sheath. I currently am using a scout draw leather sheath but like having kydex around for the wet trips.

I would avoid the oven - it will completely mess up all the shaping of the kydex. Instead, use a heat gun or a powerful hair dryer, to heat just the areas you want to bend.

You can use the oven if you have to, but on a lower heat and make sure you watch it the whole time

Email me with your mailing address and we will send you a new sheath.

Holy Bleepity bleepity bleep! You guys ROCK! Now i know why i buy and use Rat cutlery products. BTW everyone else at the deer camp was shocked at what my convexed rc-4 was able to accomplish in general tasks and making quick work of all my field dressing a final processing work.

Glad to hear the knife is being put to good use. Just drop me your mailing address to jeff@ratcutlery.com and we will get a new piece of Kydex to you.

I've been sitting here trying to think of something fitting to say about the quality of service Jeff provides, but I really can't think of anything. Unbelievable.

Pretty nice to know the customer matters even after you pocket their money. Good on ya, Jeff.

RAT Cutlery has been very fortunate to have the BEST customer base in the industry, and they all mean a lot to us.

Now we can all make fun of Scotsman the Dishwasher Kydex Former! :D

nice one Jeff - you all really do go above and beyond.
scotsmanspride - while waiting for the new sheath, you might try boiling the old sheath and reshaping it that way.
Lay down a hand towel, when you pull the sheath out of the boiling water, put the knife in it and wrap it all in the towel - that will insulate it enough you can hand shape it without burning yourself.

careful of the dishwasher's heating elements. ! A plastic ladel fell through the top rack once and ended up next to the heating elements...MELTED and started stinking up the kitchen BAD !

heat gun set on the higher setting with either a good press or your hands sheathed in leather would also work well to reform the sheath (for a backup) !

How about something like "Damn Jeff, your almost, ALMOST, as awesome as Shotty......almost."

Maybe we can get drew to take a pic of scotsmans sheath.

Jeff and Rat Cutlery are a world class company.

What a generous act Jeff. I don't know of any other company who would do something like that, especially when it's not your fault.Kudos to you and Rat!!

Great knives,superb customer service...That's why I'm a RAT customer for life.:D

I doubt you'll have much luck getting the sheath back to shape enough to get proper retention.

Even if you did heat it enough to bend it back and take a set, the holes would almost surely not line up.

A likely story.....I bet he was washing his kilt (too cheap to use the washing machine) and he just forgot his RC-4 sheath in the kilt :D :D :D

Shotty, if you hook me up with a black sheath for my coming RC-3, I will do nothing but sing your praises after I get a chance to test the quality for myself. Blems are fine, just need function. Heck I've only been using RATs for two months and I'm already getting others on the bandwagon. I'd be more than happy to do the same for you. :D

Actually I never never ever wash a kilt. Dry clean only.....maybe i should take my sheaths in the next time to get dry cleaned instead too!
