I recently got a spokane street scalpel from a fellow forumite. I like the knife a lot, but the kydex belt sheath that came with it is a little too loose for me. Is there any way to make it more secure, or will I have to send it to a sheath maker for adjustments?

Thanks for the help.:D

Thomas, the TOPS Street Scalpel is a small knife made from 1/4" thick steel. It is thick and chisel ground and has a funny shape, which is why the sheath doesn't work well (nothing to really grab). The sheath is really poor, actually. I did a custom job for a customer once and it turned out fine. You can try heating the lip of the sheath and pressing it a bit, but I don't know if that will work. You may want to email Normark and see if he has that model. if he does he'll have sheath ready for it.

Here is a link to pics of the street scalpel:

Chiro75 - I agree as to the quality of the sheath. I'm concerned the knife would fall out with very little movement. By "chisel ground", do you mean ground only on one side and flat on the other? Mine is flat ground on both sides.

A sheath from a custom maker would probably cost me WAY more than I paid for the knife so... I think I am going to try to heat up the kydex and form it better. I don't have a toaster oven. I have read that it works good for this purpose, but I'm not willing to buy one to fix this one sheath. Any way it can be done with a regular oven? I may try a hair dryer if I can find one.

AntDog,

Try sending it to TOPS for a new sheath. The Kydex sheaths are backed by a 3 year warranty. The Micarta handle Scalpels are just a little but wider than the cord wrap handles. Assuming you have the cord wrap handle, perhaps a cordwrap got a micarta sheath? Even if that wasn't the case they'd take care of you for sure.

AntDog,

I picked up a SS from a fellow forumnite also and the sheath also sucked. I then made myself a reverse grip, strong side belt sheath out of Kydex, and the knife now rocks!! I personally prefer reverse draw for most of my fixed blades and it works super sweet with the SS. Mine is the cordwrap version BTW. If you are interested in this type of carry, shoot me an Email, I promise to make it worth your while.;)

got mine (i cant find it now) directly from the boys while i was at blade show. the sheath was fine. wasnt loose, held the knife upside down or rightside up. work flawlessly.

i need to find mine, its gotta be around here somewhere..

My La Griffe sheath was kind of loose and I used a big hair dryer and reformed the lip to hold the knife in better. Be careful though. The first time I reformed the sheath, it worked perfectly and held the blade in tight, but I was a bit too ambitious and tried it again, and now it's extra floppy and I can't seem to make it hold tight again.

Jailhack came up with a perfect solution to my sheath problem! Thanks buddy - I owe you one!:D
