Kydex sheath - Chestnut ridge

Im shopping for a sheath for my BK9

Anyone have a Chestnut Ridge kydex sheath?

This is .08" thick material. Is that the standard thickness of other Kydex sheaths?

Also , Taco vs Two Piece/rivets both sides. Any preference of the two? Advantage/disadvantage ?

No, just if ya got two questions , its seems better one question per thread if ya really want a answer
 
I recommend 710 for kydex.
You get more carry options with pancake. More attachment points than taco.

I agree. 710 is gonna do a custom sheath for me after Christmas. Definitely go with a pancake. I feel it just plain ol' looks better too.

I was looking at his site. I wish he showed rear pictures of belt loop options so you can see them attached on the back. What does the kydex belt loop look like ?

And the Attachments, I have no clue what they are, how they work or which is which :confused::eek:

I will probably have to do my own custom attachment. I want it right hand cross draw sometimes. And just a clip for no belt carry for around my property. Been using cheap carabiner on my jeans belt loop and on my factory becker sheath back mole strap

Maybe I should get a piece of kydex and heat it, bend it up and drill it

Go with 710 he's the best maker I've found.


What you see here is standard kydex belt loop...his leather dangler usually is attached to the belt loop via a d ring and leather belt loop...this allows the sheath to swing more freely and able to be moved around when crouched down or sitting. Then he offers ferro rod attachments like seen on the bk2 sheath.

Then you can get fancy and have the kydex wrapped in leather, can even have a gator skin look.

Then as far as pancake or taco style is merely preference. I prefer taco as they're typically allot slimmer profile than a pancake style, a pancake style will provide more mounting options thou bc of the additional holes in it.

I'd recommend contacting him and telling him what your looking for and he can make what suits your needs.

Just email/call him and then you get whatever you want. JD'S got it down. I have a BK-5 sheath that converts from belt to scout and back pretty easily.

I like the slimmer taco also. Less bulk hanging on your leg

Np, btw the pictures of his sheaths with the horizontal leather straps are for scout style carry. Also the kydex belt loop is removable, it can also be moved to do lower or raise it depending on how you want it to ride. If you prefer it riding lower let him know so he can make it that way. It typically comes about 3/4 up the handle which may ride to high for some people.

A tek-loc in a vertical carry set up on a kydex sheath will make the knife ride really high on your hip. Even higher than I like, and I like a high riding knife.

Al (Azwelke) makes great kydex - have one for my 5 currently, and one for my 15 on the way.
710 also makes great kydex - got his straight from kabar with my 9, and it is amazingly finished.

You won't go wrong with either of them.
 
I ordered a sheath from Al for my 10 a long while ago. My issue with his was it was abs plastic, not kydex. Big difference IMO. Not bashing on the man. He makes a great product, I was expecting kydex is all. So if I ever need something kydex that I can't make myself imma go to the 710.

I have two inbound from Al now (got shipping confirmation just today). Thanks for the heads up. Will report back if for some odd reason it is not kydex.

BTW: did I say how perfect the 710 sheath was:D
