Kydex sheath - Chestnut ridge

I shoved my 9 into my condor hudson sheath, real tight fit at handle. When I pulled it out, real tight, ummfff, The long blade at the end sliced through the leather at the top.... Oopps !

I thought I heard somewhere the 9 would fit it...guess not so much...
IIRC the post I read, they guy bought the Hudson Bay to use the sheath on his 9 and the Knife was just a bonus lol

Maybe soak the top of the condor sheath in hot water first so it stretches, then put the knife in and let stretch and dry

Once my tight fit popped loose from pulling hard the momentum caused me to slice the leather at the top

Also , Taco vs Two Piece/rivets both sides. Any preference of the two? Advantage/disadvantage ?
I like both taco and pancake, but contemplate which knife and for what use it will be for before deciding.

Kydex sheath can often as a matter of course be a bit bigger than most leather sheaths because you need room for the rivets, which need more room on the Kydex than a single seam on a leather sheath.

Here a scout carry leather sheath and a scout carry Kydex sheath with TekLoc. Taco Kydex is a tad bigger than the leather sheath.

A QnD pic of two new sheaths for my GEK.

For some outings, I do prefer 'scout carry.'
Knife is easy to get at and sits discreetly yet still secure.

Kydex sheath for the knife has a TecLok attached.
The Kydex sheath has that nice and reassuring snap to it, when the knife is put back in the sheath.
No need for a strap is nice but I must say, that the strap in the leather sheath does not bother me.
It is of course a must on the leather sheath, the way its designed.

In regards to the carry option you mentioned, I some times use a Malice Clip on the leather scout carry sheath. Thus its instantly converted from horizontal carry to vertical carry.

You can use one or two Malice Clips. Its quick and easy.

I ordered a sheath from Al for my 10 a long while ago. My issue with his was it was abs plastic, not kydex. Big difference IMO. Not bashing on the man. He makes a great product, I was expecting kydex is all. So if I ever need something kydex that I can't make myself imma go to the 710.
I've got a couple sheaths from Al, and both are Kydex....my awesome 710 sheath OTOH is (AFAIK) made from Boltaron. Bottom line is they are both brand names or pretty much the same thing - thermoform acrylic PVC. I've dabbled in making kydex and believe me, I'm NO expert....but there are a LOT of manufacturers that make this stuff, and some of the non brand names work just fine, in my experience. They both make high quality sheaths, each with a different flair. Also worth considering are Kydex sheaths from trailbum (northeastkydex1 on the 'bay) if you're looking for something a little less fancy. I really like trailbum's Machax sheath as the knife just snaps in there like every other straight blade sheath and has no straps or other fiddly bits. Though to be fair, it's not a very, uh...compact unit.

I never thought about material from a different manufacturer. Regardless I had no problem with his sheath.

very cool idea

I did that with the factory sheath with a carabiner on my belt loop, worked great.
How do you make those knots. I can make a hang mans noose on the cord

Again thanks bobby for the pics

Diamond knot. It is fairly easy to tie, and then you gotta work to dress it. TIAT (Tying It All Together) on Youtube has guides on how to tie almost everything in a simple, easy to follow fashion. I don't use the cobra weave that Shadow did, I go with a sliding cord lock. Will edit with pic shortly.

EDIT: Here you are.

Is that sliding cord lock a real short one. Where did you get that? Ive only seen the longer ones

I'll probably get a sheath only, with no belt loop attachments, and use paracord and then later make my own belt attachment after I figure out what will work for me. Gotta decide on a azwelke or a 710, Id like to get some of those screws/nuts thrown in

We use all Kydex, never used ABS...you must have us confused with the "other guy"

Thank You to those that support us;)

Like I said not trying to bash or anything. The quality of workmanship was awesome. And this was years ago so my judgement or knowledge of kydex was lacking. With that said I apologize.

Foofie,

I'll be waiting to see which you like best , quality, finish, etc

Just reporting back.
Got two sheaths from Al. Kydex for sure!
The bk15 fits like a dream.
I also ordered one for a safety mutt - not fitting perfectly. In his defense, he has a similar but not exact knife. Anyway, Al has been trying to make it work (even through the holidays!). Long story short, he is taking care of the problem and I have no doubt I will soon have another perfect fitting sheath.

I have no direct experience with 710 (other than owning one of his sheaths). With Al, I have no hesitations about ordering from him again.
