Kydex Sheath for the BK-7

Making a sheath for the BK-7 was a difficult task.. The knife is great, but the sheath it comes with is purely shameful. I usually prefer the aesthetic of the foldover, or 'taco' style sheaths, and the ridged thumb shelf on the BK-7 & BK-9 made it difficult to get good retention with kydex and also make a cool-looking sheath. The experimentation I've seen by others across the inter-webs generally encased the knife in a large kydex 'pocket' to compensate, and I wanted to try to streamline the sheath, to have something that more closely fit the profile of the knife, and accentuated its cool-factor...

After a lot of drawings and a lot more kydex on the floor, I came up with what I think is a good solution. Plus, it's cool-looking. :)

Here are some pics; I'd love to hear your thoughts...

I like it. I also love it when the sheath has a place for a firesteel. I'd buy one :)

I like what you've done. And I like what you did for the -2!

Thanks, Formtight! These knives are a realtively new discovery (for me), and they really deserve full-customization. I love what people are doing with them... I already cut off one of my knuckles with the BK-2, so that one is bona fide now that it's been blooded. :)

Thanks RaizoT; appreciate it. I like being able to make a fire, plus I like carrying the gear, so, I know what you mean. Everyone should have/use one.

Looks excellent.....

PM sent about BK9

Thanks a lot, Flexxx; I sent you an email back.

Wow. I consider that high praise, Ethan; thank you very much. You have crafted something that is well-loved, and will be a legacy to your name; thanks for the kind words.

Thats absolutely awesome. Is that a leather belt loop? Really dig this design, email sent.

What thickness Kydex did you use for the sheath? I'm not sure if the bigger knives work beter with .093 vs .08........or if you went with .125 :0.

Sweet sheath.
Another WA guy! Where around Seattle do you live? I'm up just north of Everett.

I found that I liked the stiffness of .093 a lot better for this particular sheath; the back end is open to make room for the thumb ramp, and I wouldn't want the knife to slip out of the sheath. That would kinda defeat the purpose :)

Hey, thanks! I'm in Newcastle, actually. In the woods. Kinda.

That's a heck of rig bother. Nice work.

Hang a shingle and they'll sell like hot cakes.

Good for you.

Cool, we went to lake samammish the other day for some fishing. It's nice down in that area, but there is too much traffic for me.

Hunka, GREAT JOB.

That is how a plastic sheath should be, sleek, utilitarian and ready to get fitted with whatever is needed.

Now, if you get the notion my BK5 needs a new stroller.
