I'd like make a feedback to kydex makers who advertises quality on their sheaths but sends out sheaths with split eyelets and wavy sheaths. this goes for buy brown kydex and azwelke.

and for the sheath makers who does not send out split eyelets and wavy sheaths, thank your the attention to details and quality. Kiahdex, The710customsheaths and godspeed tactical (banned)

I have sheaths from both Buy Brown and Azwelke and never had a split eyelet or a wavy sheath. Did you contact either of them with your concerns? Both are very stand up guys and take great care of customers.

Yes I have, they were more than willing to fix the problem but with the cost of me paying for shipping. I tend to get wavy sheaths when I order a sheath for large blades and split eyelets are just there every time I get one. you're a lucky one not to get either of those slight defects.

"Split Eyelets"?

Someone is not oiling their dies when setting the eyelet

I make some kydex, might we get some pictures of what you are talking about? I would like to see the problem areas to know I am not having the same issues. I imagine you are describing lines left by over used pressing foam that has to many impressions in it but I am not certain. The split eyelits need no explanation and I have not run into that problem.

I had one Buy Brown kydex sheath made - no split eyelets or waves; but it wasn't without issue. I sent an email explaining the problem, and requesting to return the sheath for repair (unless there was a simple DIY fix he could describe) - but I never received a response. Ultimately, I ended up purchasing a replacement from another maker. I can't say anything about the "normal" quality of Mr Brown's work or customer service efforts; but I feel he dropped the ball in my situation, since he didn't even bother responding to my issue.

Please Both send me a e-mail and I will make right whatever problems you have.
Sorry if anything slipped by me.

I try to make customers happy.

I have sheaths from both Dave Brown and Al (along with a few other makers), I have had none of the issues you describe but also note, as have others, I am almost positive (not 100% positive as I have not needed to myself) that either would rectify any issues you had.

On the split eyelets. I am not sure if they can split after the sheath is made but I bought a pack of eyelets at Blade that are very bad to split. Last sheath I made I had to drill out 3 of them and replace them. The old stock eyelets I have have never split.

I have received a e-mail from HHMoore and was unaware of his issue with the sheath I made for him, his e-mail never reached me.
I have e-mailed him back and am trying to fix his concerns

I have not received any e-mail nor PM from knife chop, either now or from before ? and I can not PM him as he is a basic member and there is no contact info ?

Please if you have any problems with my sheaths do try to e-mail me, I will contact you and make it right. If you do not hear from me, the e-mail must not have gotten through, please try again.

Now on to "splitting" I have in the past have some eyelets that would split and it was not from lack of "oiling the dies" it was poor eyelet quality, those would be drilled out and replaced.
Some micro fractures may come up now and then, and you would really have to look to find them, almost with a magnifying glass, you are curling metal on to its self.

Now this is not to say I am 100% full proof on catching every single eyelet from 15 years and 1000's of sheaths but I am pretty vigilant.

If you ever have a problem please e-mail me.

I would like to see some pics of the issues.

If I do not know I can not do anything about this.

By the way a friend had to direct me to this thread, again I never heard anything from knife chop.

I can just about guarantee that if Dave Brown did not email a customer back about an issue, then that email never went through. I bug Mr. Brown with all kinds of questions on his builds and he has always been very helpful.

I just unboxed an INFI RMD sheath from him this morning, and it looks great. I will not hesitate to use him in the future.

I have fewer Welke sheaths but the ones Al has built for me have been excellent.

I've had a couple sheaths from both Dave and Al; both were top notch in quality as well as function.:cool: You might even say they could be considered benchmarks for other kydex benders to be measured against. :D:)

Maybe some more details would help clarify what exactly happened? (knife chop)...

Hi there,
If this said split rivet/wavy sheath belongs to me, not only will I replace it, but I will pay postage both ways.
I don't think there is anyone on the planet who is perfect everyday.
Pictures would be appreciated and an email to the maker to address the issues.
Thank you all for your continued support.
Al & DeAnn

I apologize for the late reply. I'm currently away from home due to work. i'll try to post some pictures this sunday when i get home.

My experience with Al was overall good. 3 out of 4 sheaths i got had 1 or 2 split eyelets and 1 with a combination of wavy and 1 split eyelet. most of those knives are Busse's and i've sold most of them. that leaves me with one. the way the eyelets split on Al's sheath are unnoticeable. you really have to look at it to notice. the difference i see between Al's and Buy Brown is the "back" part or the eyelet is thicker, so when it splits it splits lightly.

the latest sheath I've acquired from David was from a buy brown made kydex sheath that i purchased from bradshaw blades. it had 3 very split eyelets and it actually what prompted me to start this thread. so far I've had 5 or 7 sheath from him buying and selling Busse's and those sheaths all had split eyelets (maybe 1 or 2 on each sheath). currently i just have 2 with the issues mentioned. again, i will post pictures this weekend.

FWIW, I have quite a few sheaths from Al and they're all for big Busse & SRKW knives (NMFBM, Gladius, Waki, Ruki), and I have a lot of sheaths from Dave Brown that are all for big Busse & SRKW & SYKCO knives including one of the biggest you'll see for a Butnaiku.

I've had no issues with broken/cracked eyelets or sheaths not being straight. I've had a couple minor fitting issues and both Al and Dave have taken care of them by email instruction, or by fixing them quickly and crediting me the return shipping fees with no hassles.

They are both great sheath makers and will take care of you!
