I was not satisfied with the normal IWB-clip of the CQ sheath and so I replaced the clip by a frog-stud. The ball chain is for drawing the knife without the sheath. What do you think?

Looks like it will move around alot while you're walking, I couldn't imagine it would be extremely comfortable. YMMV

and you're avatar kinda scares me haha j/k

I like it! I would think a rather heavy ball chain must be used to avoid embarrassing drawing accidents  :D
good job!

ps. your avatar scares me too LOL :D

Hey Horus....

Looks like it works OK for you....However I'm with Dwatts on this one.. If the ball chain break at a critical time,, you'll have lost the edge, and thast split second is going to really count..

If I may offer a solution to this which I think you'll like....

Take a pice of paracord and attach it the same way you would a neck rig....

Now simply make a loop around either your belt loop,,or better yet the belt itself and slide it in your waist band...

Adjust the paracord so the knife sits at the height you want it and you are all set...

This is called a static line..The sheath with draw out of the pants with the knife,,when it comes to the end of its tether,,the sheath will release...Very comfortable and safe way to draw,,as the knife is already away from the body when the sheath clears...You'll also be able to remove the stud as the para cord will take it's place

Give it a shot...
Tell us how it works..

I like it Horus, although I would also probably go with the paracord instead of a chain. Usually you only see frogs on leather sheaths, but it's a good, simple solution to IWB carry.

Hey Horus..

What kind of knife is that??

Kasper ??

It's not a CRKT Companion is it??

Good idea but I would go static line as well. You moght also want to consider an IWB loop with a strong snap as an alternative.

I'm pretty sure Horus customized his CRKT. Saw it in a previus thread. I was also planning on mentioning that the IWB for CRKT K/P you (OST) make are a great pick up! :D

Hey dayuhan13

Thanks for the kind words..:)

Nice innovative idea there! This is the first kydex frog sheath I have ever seen. I agree that the chain looks flimsy, but I think this is only a few more prototypes away from being a great carry option!

And hey, any sheath idea that gets NORMARK posting so many times in one thread must be a good idea!

Hey Karl....

LMAO.. :)

Actually Mike Sastre makes a studded sheath..

His southern Comfort for the Hells Bells series sports a stud..
Nice design...

He wore it at a dinner one night,,and pulled it out.. Couldn't believe he had that Big A__ed blade down his pants...

However,, I hear he's got Lots of room down there..:)

Very good customizing job!

I have made sheaths to be used like Eric described for a good while and this attachment system works very well and is very versatile. On mine, though, I put a small J shaped piece of Concealex to make it easier to attach to the belt and to remove it as well. I never used a stud but seems a good idea if you really want the sheath only to go that far inside your waistline - maybe a kydex "lip" where the stud is located would be simpler and less bulky to do the same job.

Hey Ivan..

Not a bad idea..
That entire piece with the holes in it could be folded over and used that way...

However,,with a Static line,, the cord keeps the knife from falling down the pants,, as it's attached to the tip and the tension won't allow it to go any further...
You have to have fairly tight pants though with that,,or a belt....

If the knife is not standing in the right place, just run to the nearest McDonalds and eat two BigMacs - repeat operation until the problem is solved.:D

Ivan..

LOL...

If you've ever seen me,, you know,, I've done that before.. :)

Thanks for your nice comments and suggestions for improvement!

Regarding "Looks like it will move around alot while you're walking“ and "falling down the pants“: Regrettably there is enough pressure from inside the waistband to keep the knife in place.

Regarding paracord static line and kydex "lip“ (special thanks to Eric and Ivan): I tried the the "static line“-suggestion (better solution than the ball chain!) and while thinking about it, a "effect“ of the Hossom Narc-sheath comes to my mind.
If you press the forefinger against the sheath (here the stud) and the other fingers draw the knife, the sheath will "shoot“ in the opposite direction of drawing. That means, if you draw the knife this way, the sheath will stick at his place. That draw method works very well and is not more tricky than drawing a clipped folder. So now I do not need a ball chain or paracord.
Because I am not sure if I have explained this effect understandingly and also I suppose your doubts regarding the functionality, I will make a mpeg to show it.

Regarding the knife: It is the Close Quarter model by Al Polkowski.

Regarding the multiple photos in one post: I have own webspace.

My mistake!:o I thought it was A CRKT K/P Companion! I remember seeing a customized one somewhere on the boards.

What I waw the butt of the knife I thought is was the Warthog, another fine Polkowski knife.

How about doing a button hole in the pants and just buttoning the frog into that? (stud visible outside the pants throught the button hole, sheath IWB as is.) With appropriate pressure, the knife ain't going anywhere, up, down left or right.
