I was thinking of trying this also, here is a site by Creek Stewart that describes the process (Fat Guys in the Woods fame).

I just ordered these supplies from http://holstersmith.com. I will have to mount the Thermoform molding foam onto some plywood but I think this is all I will need.

is your google broken or on strike?

I was thinking that 6x12" will be fine for making a knife sheath so I'm going to cut the foam in half.

Well sonil, this IS where we discuss sheaths n such, so well there's that.

If everyone googled everything we'd have nothing to talk about now wouldn't we?

Excellent Kiah, thanks for the link!

No problem. I think there's a couple more around here somewhere.

Always multiple ways to go about things of course.

Just a FYI

Those leather punches will not go through kydex very well.
You need the drill bits .

You can damage the punches trying to go through kydex.

Good luck with your build and show off the results.

p.s. I think if you pay for even the cheapest membership it allows you to search and supports the site we all love.

Is there anything else I would need to assemble it

I made a "press" last night with 2 pieces of 1x1 plywood, four 1/4 long screws and wing nuts and 2 pieces of neoprene foam. Works great and was only 20 bucks.

It was an idea I've seen around, and since I'm only beginning in kydex I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a bought press.

This one works great and it turns out a good sheath. Much better than expected.

This is the only pic I have at the moment, but gives a good idea

I bought similar tools from TandyLeather. They carry two thicknesses of Kydex in 12x12 or 12x24 in size.

But as said above, a drill does a better job for prepping for the eyelets. The foam floor tiles are a good idea, and can be found at pretty much any big box. In fact I'm sure I have some of that stuff in my garage already. The few sheaths I've made I didn't use a press, but really need one. I just heated the kydex in the oven, then hand moulded around the knife while wearing gloves. To tweak odd spots or fine tune, used a hair dryer to hit specific points and continued the glove work.

So can be done pretty cheap with basic tools most people have around the house, and a few eyelets w/ setter. But a foam press would make for a more professional end product.

Just so you're aware, that foam is probably EVA and not neoprene. Works well, just clarifying.

Thanks. It's neoprene. At least the packaging says so. Actually worked better than I expected for being so thin also. Turned out a really tight fit
