Surprised no one brought this up, no jumpmaster will permit you to jump with a knife in a leather sheath. Probably not even the kydex, but I have seen in happen a few times.
Leather rots! Period, end of story. I have a Randal #1 that I purchased new. Keep in mind I did all the voodoo leather treating rituals, which helped somewhat, but soaking in parafin, just doesn't prevent pressure induced punctures. Like from falling out of a HUMVEE. Poked right through the sheath, and chipped the belly on some FT Irwin rock.
