Anyone ever worked with making their own Kydex sheaths before?

Any tips or suggestions on forming it?

Run searches on a couple forums. Maybe this one, but I think the Review forum had a good, quite recent thread. Maybe the Custom and/or the Shop forums.

Make sure you read them thoroughly. A lot of knifemakers strongly recommend rocking back and forth on the forming sheat around the knife. The sheath maker(s) more strongly say don't do that.

Got a case of the guilts after reading the old thread you brought back to life for lurkers.

So, the thread was in Shop Talk. Here's the URL:
http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum51/HTML/002484.html

If that goes awry, just run search on kydex in Shop Talk, and the one I'm talking about is pretty near the bottom of the first page of the 75 or so links. When you find it, in particular read carefully the post by Normark. Bruce is extremely well regarded, and as the post shows, isn't at all put out by giving advice that could well cut into his own business. A great guy everyone says.

Before I forget -- Welcome to the forums. I'm glad to see you're already using the search function.

Thanks Bugs3x!

Great link, gave me all the info I was looking for.

I actually found the Lurkers string while looking for info on Kydex. By the time I had already posted to it I noticed how old it was. It's gotten a lot of posts since so there is still some ineterest in the topic, now I don't feel so bad.

As a newby I have to say that anyone who has a passion for knives is very excited when they find this place. Most of my friends think I'm nuts because I'll spend more than $30 on a knife and it's great to find this many other people who see the value and appeal of a high end knife.

Thanks again!

Hey Guys..

First off,,

Bugs Thanks....

Well All I really want to stress, and I've said it before...

Don't Rock!!!!

Tape your blade, 3-4 layers and apply Straight Downward or Vertical pressure.

You will need mechanical assistance.. Your Body weight will Not be enough to get a good press...

If all else fails use a vise,, but I would suggest pipe clamps and Not the Squeeze type...

I use a custom made hydraulic press if that tells you anything...

Good luck, have fun and Press on..

ttyle

Eric...
