Kyle Royer Damascus & Stag Shell Hanger Bowie; More Photos Added

That is superlative in every way. I love the stainless when polished like a mirror in contrast with the detail. Wonderful!!!

Congratulations Kyle! and Kevin!

Oh my that is gorgeous--his stuff just gets better and better.

Thanks for posting that, Kevin.

Hello!

Kevin, Kyley Caleb - wonderful in every way! Congratulations guys!

Kevin, what a brilliant addition to your collection!

Kyle, amazing overall package! The stainless fittings really shine here.

Caleb, can only repeat myself, love your style and your closeups!

All the best,
Alex

What a team to educate the world on just how amazing a custom knife can be. I feel as though I've now "seen this one in person" now. Stunning knife, stunning photos. What's left to say?

That may be the nicest knife I have ever seen in almost ten years here. The engraving on the tang? Amazing detail. I think it would also look great with the polished fittings hot blued, except that would detract from the engraving.

Kevin,
Thanks for sharing. Kyle is exceptional at his attention to detail and this is an outstanding example. It's always amazed me at his masterful achievements on his first attempt at anything.
He's an inspiration to us all.

I totally agree Gary. Even with this being a fairly high-end piece, and Kyle never having done scroll engraving, I had no apprehension that it would not turn out amazing as the magnified images demonstrate. He did do quit a bit of practicing and that's the primary reason it took quite a while for him to complete this Bowie.

I can't even imagine how much stress Kyle must have been under while engraving that handle frame, realizing that one slight mistake would mean all that work on the one-piece frame and the filing/polishing of the shell rear bolster would be wasted.

Thats pretty amazing, congrats Kevin! I don't know if the knife is just you, or if the only thing that makes me think that is the amber stag. Must be a rewarding knife to own. Those pins look gold, or rose gold. Are they? It has a similar handle to your other, so it will fit in nice. Actually that must be what I am seeing.

Hello Jon, yes the pins are 14K gold.
I thought you would like this piece as our taste in knives seems to run so similar.

Kevin, your new Bowie is truly a top shelf piece... I'm sure you had a great deal of input design wise, and the materials and finishes are perfect... It would be right at home even in the finest collections.

Kyle, my guess is many of your fellow makers are going to be leaving comments when they see this Bowie.. Any praise and kudos for you, and your work, are richly deserved... What an incredible knife! Congratulations to both you, and Kevin, for such a successful project....

Best Regards, Rich Slaughter

Thanks Rich, as you may have noticed, the use of mirror stainless, amber stag, Damascus and shell theme was actually inspired by a particular folder.

Congrats my friend on such an awesome piece......Merry Christmas! :)

Thanks, that's quite a complement considering all the outstanding knives posted here on a regular basis. I know Kyle will appreciate that.

I agree blueing would distract from and conflict with the engraving and it's one of the main elements that make the overall design work so well IMO.

Thank you for all your comments and opinions!

I would like to add that in addition to this Bowie's aesthetic attributes, it feels so good in hand, just the right weight and balancing right at the guard.
It's one of those pieces that makes you want to go out and chop a tree down with it. One of the things that interests me most about this type knife is that it's obviously high art yet can function to the highest degree. That's what it's all about in my opinion.

Blade Performance tested on a 2x6.

What an incredible piece of artistry, you are a lucky man, Kevin. It is truly amazing watching Kyle do a WIP and thinking you know how the knife is going to turn out and then low and behold it is done, and he has again taken it to an even higher level. Caleb, thank you for your gift of capturing and sharing the beauty of this knife with us.
