Hey Guys, Does anyone know where I can get some real L-6. I've been using Admiral 8670 so I want to compare it to the real deal. Also in an unheated shop when is it too cold to forge? Can you just heat up the anvil and forge ahead?

Thanks James7729

Too cold to forge? What, are you in Siberia? :D
No seriously though... I don't think there's such a thing as "too cold to forge". If your anvil is cold, do some work on it and it will warm up.
If YOU'RE cold... well, do some work and you'll warm up. :)

yeah, if its REALLY cold out you want to preheat your anvil some, I have a big chunk of scrap that I heat in the forge and just lay on top of the anvil to preheat.

Dude, you are in MICHIGAN, your winters are........well a bit frikkin colder than the rest of the world(antarctica included) :D.

Some of us still feel cold:D

Hey guys thanks for the info. Appreciate the help and encouragement

Here's the phone number for Crucible's Indy office, if it's still open:

Indianapolis, IN 317-638-4501 or 800-365-1146

You could probably pick up your steel, and save on shipping, if they have it in stock.

Understand that Crucible L-6 and Carpenter L-6 are two different things .Pick one , learn how to treat it and stick with that brand !
