Hi,

I've got a boot knife/small fighter marked "L. C. Smith Custom Dallas Texas" It is a lovely small knife with nice lines, well-made, including a RC dimple, and a nice, tan leather left-hand sheath.

I've never been able to find out a thing about him. Anybody here know who he is? Anything about his work?

If I could figure out how to post photos, I'd do that. But right now all I can do is send an email.

Thanks, Guns3

i also have an l.c.smith knife that i have not been able to find out anything about the make/maker---it was suggested to me the the shotgun company l.c.smith may have had them made and were given away with expensive shotguns...???

Is this an old knife? I ask, because L.C. Smith closed down in 1950. Marlin made a few shotguns with the L.C. Smith name in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

I also have a small custom boot by L.C. Smith, if I get the time I will post a photo tonight.

Never have found any information on Mr. Smith.

Take Care
Charles

I have a couple of the old L.C. Smith Shotguns, but have never seen a knife made by them. there is an L.C.Smith collecors site but I cant remember the address, they might know who made them.

"LC Smith" was the moniker of an unknown TX maker who made some semi-production stuff popular in the 90's. I am pretty sure it was a full time knifemaker who wanted to make some mass production on the sly but I don't recall the name. The knives are simple and well done.

Les would know.

Thanks Bladeandbarrel,

I seem to recall hearing basicly the same story a few years ago.

Here is a photo of the knife I have.

Well, one look at that knife, and the only thing I know for certain, is that is in no way related to the L.C. Smith of shotgun fame! Nice knife to be certain, but L.C. Smith was long gone when anything like that appeared. I do believe the L.C. Smith name was ressurected not too long ago, and the shotguns produced in the 21st century appeared nearly identical to the two side-by-sides I own. Beautiful case hardened receivers with exceptional walnut. Unfortunately the new ones are just as expensive as an origional in 95% condition!

I used to run a small gun store back in oh 1994 and we got in several L.C. Smith knives they sold well they where given to us by one of our rifle vendors .
