This past weekend I purchased a LL Bean Rucksack and I am just wondering if anyone has any comments on it since I will not be able to test it for a few weeks? It seems like a very light, very strong bag which can hold a great deal of stuff in the main pocket. I cannot find really any details about it so if you have any it would be much appreciated. :)

I've always heard good things about them, would like to have one. Pics, especially with your gear, would be good!

I have the continental pack. Waxed canvas leather bottom. LOVE IT.

I have a LL Bean Rucksack that I got as a gift around 1990. It's still going strong and I really like it.

My son used one as a book bag while he was in high school. It's still in very servicable condition. I can't think of a better testimonial for a piece of gear than that.

I must say I think its great that companies like LL Bean keep so much of the traditional stuff going. I'm on the mailing list for the their catalogues and there is so much awesome stuff in there, especially around Xmas time.

Love to see a pic of that ruck.

Is this the one? Looks nice.

Its very similar to the one ejes posted, except instead of those materials it is made from polyester I believe. In a few weeks I will be going on vacation for spring break and will try and take some pics, though it won't be much in the way of camping gear for the most part.:D

I will also be using it for the CT meet and greet going on hosted by Brian Jones. I will take pics of all my camp gear then for sure.

I plan to put on a coating spray that I bought that will water-proof the fibers. Does anyone have any experience with these types of spray on coats?

Great pack. I bought one for my son for graduation. The same model in waxed canvas and leather. He uses it everyday as a book and travel bag. I liked the traditional look and of course the L.L. Bean reputation.

My wife and I both have that LL Bean Rucksack and really love it. Ours is the waxed cotton and Every year I rub in a coat of Filson Wax. I have never used a spray wax but I believe Nik Wax makes one.

Tony, it's a fashion statement. Leave the face hairs alone, but for contrast, well, you know...;) :D

I am one of those who had problems with the China made pack from the git-go (I know of others). The stitching on both of the main flap straps literally fell off (it didn't pull) the first time I used the pack. Since the straps are not a solid piece of leather like Duluth packs, Frost River, etc., they are inexpensively laminated and sewn completely around the perimeter like a watch band. Some of this stitching was also coming apart leaving the synthetic material between the laminated straps frayed.

After I sent the pack back, LL Bean indicated that they were having some quality issues with the pack and would look into it. From reading some of the posts here, they must have taken care of the quality issues.

*Some have asked me why I didn't repair the pack myself since I own a leather shop. Well, there are many things I could have done, but I only expected my monies worth at the time. My pack was purchased in 2007. :)

Best daypack made, IMHO. I've lugged one around for a decade, hiking, canoeing, hunting. It's still going strong.
