Can you get a hamon to show on L6 or is it not worth the effort to clay up.
Thanks for the info.

Too deep hardening for an active hamon. Can air harden too. You can get a quench line if you only heat the edge to critical when quenching.

With that said, if one wants a hamon on L6 bad enough, it can most likely be done.

Robert Howard Clark would be the man to ask for sure. he get's some amazing hamons on his L6.

Howard's heat treat for his L6 blades is very far from traditional. No clay, salt pots, banite(spl?), many hours per blade and edge hardening. They are amazing blades but I would call the L6 hamons, very active. Now his 1086M blades have very active hamons for sure.

Howard is light years ahead of most of us and a great guy.

Thanks Sam! Don i was just looking at Howards site and i see what you are saying but i just bet they are awesome cutters. His 1086 blades and hamons are just wild.
