I know this must have come up 1000 times before but would someone be willing to share a step by step approach to heat treating L6 for alarge blade.

The following steps would be my novice approach will it work ? If not please rewrite the steps for a novice. Any help would be great.

1[SUP]st[/SUP] I am putting coal in a silver bowl
2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Start to fan to increase fire
3[SUP]rd[/SUP] When the color becomes red I put the blade on it
4[SUP]th[/SUP] When the blade becomes red then I put into oil

P.S. my L6 is/will come from Aldo

frankly, no. It won't work. I would e-mail Darrin Sanders and see if you can work something out with him. Your way will harden the blade, but you will be cheating yourself by spending 30-40 hours on a knife and then not having it work to it's full potential. You can drop 5 bucks a week into a jar and then by them end of the month you will have enough money to do it right.

Filling out your profile will help us help you. You have posted twice a day for a month, so now it is time to become a polite member of the group, and fill out your profile.

I hope you realize that that HT will not work.

Reading the stickies about HT will tell you a lot of how and why it works.
Welcome to the BF, and now that
