L6

+1 on the Farmer blades. He's very reasonably priced and his edges redefine 'sharp out of the box'. L6 seems to take an insane edge.

The original Gerber Mark II and Mark i were made from L6 up until around 80-81.

Which is probably one of the ways they built their reputation. Tough steel with easy sharpening and edge holding ability!

Wish I had a few of their oldies.

I had a skinner of theirs as a kid, that was stainless, and the worst edge holding ability of almost any knife I have ever owned (excepting a really cheap "Life Knife" that was almost as bad as aluminum).

I work with L6 often. Email or call me using the info. below and give me some idea of the type of knife you're looking for and I'd be glad to give you a quote if you'd like.

^Darrin does great work, so it never hurts to drop him a line and at least see! The more you know and all that. :)

no idea, but glad some here do as l6 has become a favorite steel of mine after my playing with svord knives.

can anyone else verify the gransfors bruk axes using l6 steel as mentioned earlier in this thread? which leads me to wonder was it always l6 or has it changed over the years and is now? wonder what hults bruk is using for steel?
