La Brea Bowie Build (PRO PHOTOS ADDED)

Man, that knife is turning out stupid nice, with great steel. Plus, I like your style- "I was just quiet for a few minutes..." pretty much what I do now, too.

Thanks for the comments guys, all of the encouragement is helpful in pushing me along so thank you. It feels really great to be taking the next step as a knife maker in making more complicated pieces, but man will I be glad to have this one done! :) Now on to today's/ yesterday's progress:

Time for file work on the frame, for this piece I thought it would be better to go simple so that it doesn't start to get too busy.

And after etching and bluing it is on to the dry fit:

And then seeing how everything looks together:

Then after the bronze sheet finally arrived onto the shield, first to find the middle:

Then slotting and fitting the shield:

Roughing in the oval:

Then onto file work and sanding:

And if all goes well tomorrow it will be pinned together and ready for leather work. Thanks for following along everyone! :)

Well we are finally near the finish line, the knife is now all together (still some minor clean up and the final sharpening to do) but now it is time for the sheath.

I was able to make some progress on the sheath today getting the primary tooling done and the front/ back are both dyed.

And of course a quick and dirty shot of the knife all together with it's bronze pin. Also once this is fully done I will be sending it off to Caleb Royer to photograph so you won't have to deal with my bad photos anymore. :)

Thank you again for following along and for all of the encouragement along the way, I will keep posting a few photos as they come along for the sheath in the next couple of days.

I also strongly suspect that this Bowie will figure in the 2016 Best Bowie. It has been a pleasure following.

What a fantastic WIP, that Damascus is awesome and someone is going to be very, very happy with such a fantastic piece.definately will be in the running for Bowie of the year award.

Just a quick small update as this project is nearly done. I only have the bandoleer left to finish today, but so far it is coming along pretty well I think.

Thanks Roger! And finally DONE! Thanks for sticking with me through the build and all of the encouragement along the way. Time to send it off to Caleb to work his magic.

I have really enjoyed the build with the details and great work, That is an excellent knife and a talented maker who fashioned her!

Craig thank you for such a kind compliment, this knife has been such a big learning experience in so many ways, I have a feeling this one will always hold a special place in my heart and be a difficult one to part with.
