Laconico light but stout backpacker knife (lots o' pics)

That's the one I had at the hammer in on Saturday. The two knives are very similar but tknife's has just a little longer blade. Not bad since I don't keep patterns and just copied it from memory!

I've got to get my timing right for when Ray posts one of these for sale in a model that I like, and having the funds available to purchase, before these really catch on and he raises the prices!

Very nice pieces, and I am keeping my eyes out in the Maker's exchange for the right one!

I'm glad that you have a good memory Ray :D It really came out great

Ray's knives are wonderfully executed, but it should be mentioned that his sheaths are also very, very good. His kydex is as good or better than those made by some people who only do sheaths.

I should add that this one is a little lighter than mine. My version weighs in at a whopping 5.2 oz. I guess it didn't get quite as much fairy dust....

I thought yours was lighter:confused: It should be, it's smaller.. Maybe it's the lanyard on yours?

Awesome knife! RL Love your work!
Whats the official name on this design as it will now be placed on my "customs wishlist".

My vote is for a name like The Backpacker. I think the possibilities are endless - use different woods for the scales and frame, or different colors of micarta or G10. Picture one with blaze orange G10 scales and bright blue G10 frame, now that would stand out! Or blackwood scales with osage orange frame.

I agree. Ray has a winner here. Well all his knives are winners, but this light design is awesome.

Knifemaker fairy dust sprinkled on the knife is the secret ingredient:D

You didn't mention the magic words! Oh, wait, was I supposed to keep them a secret?

Ray makes the coolest framed/mortised tang knives. Mine has been very tough (it was my first Laconico and is probably my most used one too) and is very light weight. Sadly, I would guess most people would pass them by because they aren't the current trendy full tang construction. Their loss!

Great looking knife, that FFG looks sharp as all hell.

Ray Laconico's minimal designs have always caught my eye, I've definitely got to try one out sometime.

Alright Ray, that does it! I copied tknife's picture (great pics BTW tknife!) and saved it as "Ray Laconico's Backpacker"...you'll get an email from me pretty soon!

I've already gotten a couple of orders for this knife.. I should give it a name.. Lambertiana Backpacking Knife or "LBK", I guess:)

Thanks. I did that with the pics that lambertiana posted of the original one. The more I looked at it, the more it spoke to me (I think there is a subliminal message in there or something :D )

I think LBK is a cool name too!

You're getting requests for more than the LBK ... :)

After staring at tknife's pics, I poked around and found you had a couple of Camp Knifes up for sale.

I'm now poorer, but happier!

That is only because their only exposure to stick tangs has been with poorly designed and executed tangs. Ray does them right to eliminate the weaknesses found in the bad designs. These knives are workers!

You guys should know that this design takes a lot more labor to make than a simple full tang.
