I just received my Laconico woods/bushcraft knife made to order which has a 3/16" x 4" O1 steel blade and black micarta scales with red liners. I've heard a lot about the crisp, clean nature of Ray's work, and the "cyborg/robot" comments referring to his amazing accuracy and fit & finish. Well I can tell you the comments are all true. It just doesn't get any better...

I just cannot stress enough how flawless this knife is in design, execution, and the way it fits securely and so comfortably in my hand is just perfection. I think the Glock tagline would fit even better with his products. His knife company should simply be called 'Laconico Perfection'...

I took a few pics to try and demonstrate what I am talking about. But, until you hold one of his knives you can't truly understand...

Even the font of his maker's mark is just right. I love the look of his knives.

Any other specs, specifically the handle. I have been impressed with Ray's knife due to design and handle size. He is on my very short list for a custom once I receive my BHK Woods Pro so I can judge how O1 will be to sharpen easily. I am seriously sharpening challenged. I could screw up an anvil with a polishing cloth.

Thanks for posting the awesome pics and for the kind words. This knife is not perfection but I did like how it turned out. I know the flaws are there and there's no way this knife would pass if I was making a display piece. However, this knife was made to be used and I know it will be used as with all my outdoors/woods/bushcraft type knives. I made it to the best of my ability to be a great worker. Have fun with it!

Sure, the micarta handle is fairly smooth (matt finish, not polished), but is still very grippy. It is 4.75" in length. It is just over 1 1/8" at it's widest part (belly). It is about 1" wide at the narrower points. It is right at 3/4" thick at its thickest point. In my opinion, Ray has found the perfect formula for a comfortable handle that feels extremely secure with any grip. This is a necessity with this type of blade.

BTW - one of the main reasons I asked for this to be made with O1 (after the amazing edge holding) is the ease of sharpening. I too am challenged in sharpening, but O1 is the easiest sharpening steel I have found - by a mile. I'm sure you'll love your BHK Woodsman Pro. BHK makes a great knife. I love my BHK Bushbaby.

With all due respect Ray, this knife is perfection!! But display piece? Never! That would be a colossial waste of this awesome blade..

Thanks again Ray!!

One thing I forgot to mention is the grind. It came absolutely shaving sharp. After I took the pics, I did some batoning and light chopping as well as some whittling. This grind and handle makes it the ideal knife for working with wood..it's just effortless..I didn't even think to check until now, but it is still just as shaving sharp now as when I first took it out of the package. It's like I haven't even cut a piece of paper with it...

Now we all will have to jump on the bandwagon and take pictures of Ray's knives with Glocks for the Laconico Perfection theme. Now which of my Laconicos should be posed with my G30?

All kidding aside, the comments about clean grinds and spotless work are right on the mark. I live a couple miles from Ray and visit him occasionally, and I bet I have seen more of his knives than anyone else (beside his wife, perhaps). It's interesting to see him critically eyeing a knife, pointing out flaws that are often very hard for me to see. He has very high standards. You should see his reject blades, they are better than what most makers offer for sale.

Yeah I'm gonna have to try one of Ray's knives one day....thanks for the great pics !

Wow. Beautiful blade my friend. I thought it was a bit smaller, until I scrolled down to the hand shots.
