Ladies' Khukuris?

I have purchased what I was told is a ladies' khukuri. It has a sickle shaped 7" blade attached to a disturbingly light horn handle.

Sheath seems to be entirely horn with brass frame and brass symbols of Nepal like the chainpuri-handled BAS we saw recently.

Pala, Uncle, any thoughts? Do women actually use these in Nepal, or is it just a tourist item?

I'm hoping its good so it can be a Hannukah present for my mother, but I still have time to return it if its bogus.

Is this related to a kagas katne in any way?

(confused as ever)

Dave.
I think what you need is a Maccha Khukuri - looks very nice in pix! - Ask Pakcik Bill - he might has it in stock.

Looks like Jim is having the same problem as the Indin.

Khukuri FAQ

I believe that the maccha model has been discontinued. Bill said that it was too touristy for the customers, it wasn't selling very well.

Dave, are you sure that the sheath is made from HORN?

Darn.

Oh well, back it goes...

Why do you keep tempting me this way Uncle Bill?

I will never escape samsara if you keep offering me these knives.

What village models do you have right now, anyway.

(I think I am addicted to these khukuris)

hehehhe.Rusty keeps thinking and thinking also.

For a guy who just got a Ganga Ram Special and is awaiting a revived 20" Sirupati with a special butt cap and wondering what's in stock to "think" he might be addicted.

Well he might just be.I am gonna have to "think" on it some more myself. It seems as if I keep "thinking" I might be addicted too.

Khukuri FAQ

That's right, Yvsa. I just took a picture of the revived 20 inch Sirupati and it will be headed for Dave's place about 2PM today.

Pala was greatly impressed with your new buttcap and asked me to print him a picture to send to the kamis so they could see that Cherokee Indians know how to make good buttcaps and do fine work. I explained to him the best I could what sort of people the Cherokees were and also explained to him that Yvsa and I shared common ancestry. He said, "You and Yvsa are sort of like Sherpas." I said, "You got it."

It was beautiful and if Dave did not have dubs on this one it would have gone under the bed.

Better than new and good for ten lifetimes. Great work, brother!

Pala thought I did good work and Edutsi would have put it under his bed!!!
I am pleased to say the least.

The other one turned out the nicest though IMO.I think the copper against that beautiful wood is very exotic looking.
I am going to do my 17" village Sirupati that way one of these days.
The brass may look better up against the horn, but I really like the copper too.Decisions,decisions.

Khukuri FAQ

35 years of shop experience combined with a love of knives shows through. I just put up a pix, not a very good one, but it will give the guys an idea of what you did, Yvsa.

I forgot to take a pix of the "flower" you put on the endplate.
