I just bought a Spyderco ladybug. I noticed it said seki-japan on the blade which was strange. I thought they were made in the U.S. I bought it anyways because it was sturdy, and cute. It also shaved hair off my off my arm. Does Spyderco get some of their knives made elsewhere? If not I bought a really nice fake.

That's the real deal, the endura is also seki-city. I was thinking of the ladybug, but the starling is pretty decent and the same size.

Over the years, Spyderco has sold knives made for them in Switzerland, Germany, Taiwan, Italy, and Japan. In point of fact, for the first ten years of their existence all of their knives were made in Japan. Currently, in addition to the knives they manufacture in Golden, there is one model being produced in Taiwan, several in Italy, and a dozen or more Japan. In addtion Spyderco also has a growing line of knives manufactured for them in China, which they market under the Byrd label and which use a comma shaped opening hole rather than the Spyderco trademark round "Spyderhole" opener.

the byrd knives are phenomenal, i love the cara cara, wow is that knife every amazing for $25.

I`m really pleased with the Ladybug. Unfortunatly it wont get too much pocket time, since I went back and picked up the "Michael Walker Creek" also made in Seki-City. Seems pretty good for $60 U.S. Now if I can only find the right driver to get that damned clip off.
