Need some help in purchasing a new Spydie. I am new to the forum so I would greatly appreciate any advice. I really dig the blade shape of the Jester (some available on Ebay), but disappointed that it is an AUS6 blade. I know the Ladybug is a VG-10 blade.

At what point what you choose blade shape over an "inferior steel"?

Really don't know if AUS6 is inferior. I think I have learned from this forum that it would be easier to sharpen - a plus, but edge would not last as long as a VG-10 blade, correct?

Thanks in advance.

I will buy any knife that I like and one which gets good feedback from other users regardless of the steel as long as that steel is suitable for what I will use it foir but to be honest the improvement in VG-10 over AUS6, for me, is pretty much enough to go with VG-10 if I were choosing between these two knives, unless you can afford both ;)

Unless you're absolutely in love with the Jester, go with the Ladybug.

VG-10 is a big step up from AUS6.

VG-10 is indeed better than AUS6 but in reality on a knife like that you will probably never even notice.
Its not a knife you will be doing any sort of heavy cutting with any way.

I have a few of both those knives and use then fairly regularly, IMO the difference in steel is not really obvious.

Used AUS-6 for years. VG-10 could go for a week doing what AUS-6 couldn't finish out the day doing. I'm done with it. VG-10 has me spoiled.
