Lahar is one nice knife!

I was looking at getting a Lahar for my brother as he is using an old Schrade. I would definitely like to get him a Kershaw, but was unsure of which model. Would you suggest this one or a different model of similar price?

Gauge, I don't know what size, etc you're looking for but the Lahar is a fine knife, especially for the $$. I paid under $60 and you could probably find it for less. Below are the specs.

Steel: VG-10 stainless-steel
Handle: Textured black G-10
Blade Length: 3 1/2 in. (8.9 cm)
Closed Length: 4 7/8 in. (12.3 cm)
Overall Length: N/A
Weight: 5.5 oz.

Much will depend on how he is going to be using the knife.
The Lahar is a lot of knife for the money, and I'd say it would be hard to go wrong with it.

Here's a thread with pictures and lots of other info and praise of the Lahar.

Thanks Muddog and Kneedeep. My brother tends to use his knives much harder then I do. Usually a knife that will suit me will break under his use. That is why the Lahar sounded ideal- a real brute for the buck. He tends to need a knife with great lateral strength, and he only likes folders-no fixed.

Hello to everyone,I'm a Lahar owner from the Philippines. Been collecting mostly spydies and SAK's til I went around to looking for a nice EDC knife. Was turned on to this by a kind store owner who had a high regard for this knife. Was actually relectant to take his word for it but bought it anyway.
He told me in his opinion it was a cheaper version of an Emerson commander. Except this one didn't have the wave feature on it. After two weeks this knife has found a place in my heart. Can't agree more with the store owner now.
It's the best value for the money he told me considering it is already a VG-10 blade with G-10 scales...looking at how much I paid for my spydie enduras and comparing them side by side the kershaw is miles apart.
