Cable damascus knives are good looking and fun to make but I've often wondered just what kind of steel or mix of steels are in the cable and how to heat treat them. So a good solution was to laminate the cable over a high carbon steel core that can be heat treated to exact specifications. Best of two worlds.

Forged 1084 high carbon steel core with cable damascus
Heat treated in my evenheat furnace to Rc 58-60 with three normalizing and two tempering cycles with attention to a fine grain
Flat grind (the clip is not sharpened)
Mystery wood handle but very hard
Overall length: 11 inches
Blade: 6 inches and about 3/16 inch at the choil
Leather scabbard with a belt loop for a right hand carry
