I created a billet by forge welding a core of 1084 with overlays of 15N20. Both are high carbon steel but react differently to an acid etch.
I heat treated it in my Evenheat furnace to Rc 58-60 using three normalizing and two tempering cycles to a hardness of Rc 58-60. Unlike a hamon where the edge is harder than the spine this process creates uniform hardness and a fine grain throughout the blade.
Flat grind
Stabilized bacote handle
Overall length: 10 inches
Blade: 5 1/8 inches
Leather scabbard with a belt loop for a right hand carry
