Laminating G10 to Black Ash Burl

BTW- The last cleaning step should either be sandblasting or cleaning with Alcohol (denatured is best). I had heard that Acetone left a bit of oily residue and always thought that was crap. I couldn't find any solid info about it online, so I did a test...

I've been saying that for years. No one ever believes me till they try it for themselves. :D At least you tried it; most people just go "awww BS, it looks pretty clean to me" and continue to wonder why their glue-ups fail sometimes.

Pure acetone would likely not be a problem. Finding lab-quality solvents at a hardware store is about as likely as... well, it's not very likely. And going through the hassle of drying/filtering it... not very likely either, at least not in my shop.

(ETA: incidentally, I'm not a chemist... I just learned this tidbit working in a chemical factory, from an actual chemist.)

Nick and James,

I wiped down a completely clean, satin piece of steel yesterday and did notice some oily residue  I'm not sure if its actually oil or what but I don't think ill be using acetone for my final prep before gluing anymore. James I think you are onto something. In organic labs in college we always cleaned everything with acetone and I never noticed any streaking/ oily residue. Guess we used higher quality stuff.
