How do you guys like to stick two different handle materials together? I was wanting to do both wood to g10, micarta to g10, and wood to micarta. Do you guys use epoxy or some type of superglue? I've seen both being used.

What do you recommend for better adhesion of the two materials? Do you make shallow holes in both materials or just scratch them up?

Thanks!

I use super glue to laminate them together. Then I drill all the way through the liner and into the 2nd layer of the laminate to allow epoxy to get to both layers with final glue up.

It was discussed by several people in this recent thread.....

I agree, Chris - this seems to work for me. I also flatten each piece to ensure smooth edges with no glue line. Then I go back with a riffler and scuff up the middle of the scale really good - while keeping the edges of the scale smooth. This gives the epoxy something to bite in addition to the holes.

Erdbeereis, you'll find a lot of discussion here about epoxies if you do a search. I won't rehash the threads here. But I've had really good experience with West Systems GFlex, and it is probably the most popular epoxy among knifemakers. Stay clear of the hardware store 15-minute quick epoxy. I'd also stay away from superglue/CA for this application - it tends to be too brittle.

Cheers!
