I recently made that difficult choice of two new knives. After lots of searching and much reading on this forums I chose John Landi of Landi Knives in PA. I really liked the looks of his knives and the reviews/comments he received throughout the forum. I ordered a matching set of his MPM and MPS knives. Here are the specs:

Both:
1095 steel
Convex grind
Osage handles
Black, G10 liners

MPM:
4.25 in. blade
5/32 thickness
MPS:
3.25 in blade
1/8 thickness

Both knives arrived with a great fit and finish. The handles are very comfortable and hand filling. Even the smaller MPS fills the hand and may be the most used knife of the pair. Both pictures below were taken and used by permission from John Landi (the remainder of the photos are mine).

I then sent the new knives off to Christof and Sierra of Koyote Knives and received back two of the best sheaths I've ever owned. I asked for their Expedition sheath for the larger MPM and a smaller pouch sheath for neck or belt carry for the small MPS.

The Expidition sheath is amazing and the mulitple carry option are great. I supplemented the Chicago screws with a small piece of paracord to make sure everything stead in place. I currently carry it in a high ride style.

Now onto the review. Both knives ride in their sheaths equally well. The blade of the MPS has slightly more belly (as you can see in the photos) and may make a great hunting knife. Both knives shaved wood easily and (don't make fun) produced fuzz sticks with little trouble.

I was able to do some light batoning (neither knife is a chopper but I was able to easily make kindling for a fire). Making notches for traps also went quickly. I was not able to produce a workable trap for photos, but no doubt these knives would be up to the task.

Overall thoughts: I love both the knives and sheaths and have trouble which I like best. The aesthetics of osage and black liners is amazing (a bit of a bumble bee look). The blade lengths compliment each other. The larger knife will be on my belt with the smaller in my pack. Edge retention seemed good although I didn't put either knife through excessive cutting. Both could still slice paper after this review. The sheaths are amazing.

I really enjoyed working with John at Landi knives as I decided on which materials and sizes to use. Christof and Sierra were amazing to work with as well and offered a great custom product at a wonderful price.

I leave you with some gratuitous knife photos:

The MPS is a great little knife and will probably see a lot of time on the belt and around the neck. Great all around knife.

I scored a Landi off a guy here on BF--customized by Ilbruche with a sheath by him too. AWESOME knife!

And if everyone doesn't know it by now, I'm a huge fan of Koyote's products. I own 2 of his knives and won't hesitate to buy another when money is available. Sharp and comfy, plus he uses wood and leather, and I really like the combination.

I couldn't agree more Rockywolf. The combo is awesome. Great knives...great sheaths...I'm not sure what is better.

Yay for pictures! I'm glad you like the sheaths :D . Feedback and experience have shown that the chicago screws have a tendency to loosen themselves, so if the belt loop is where you want it I recommend thread locking them.

Great idea. I haven't thread locked them yet, so I added the cord for added safety. I'm also not sure I've figured out the belt situation so I may revert back to your older style and just use a longer piece of cordage so I can constantly adjust as needed.

Thanks again for the great work. The sheaths are great looking and the stitching and functioning is fantastic. Now that I've seen the sheaths I think I may need to order one of the Koyote knives I've read so much about.

You won't be disappointed. Sharp as I've ever owned and hold it for a long time.

That was a great review, thank you very much, I have been drooling over Landi osage handled knives and the Koyote sheaths and to see them together like this is awesome, when I have the money I want to do something just like this

Hey Lucas,

Great Pics! Thanks for posting your review and feedback!

Christof and Sierra, Great looking sheaths, I really like the Expedition, looks like it will last a lifetime and then some.

Thanks for all the comments. I really enjoyed using these knives and look forward to using them more in the future. I don't own many knives, so these will see much use. I'm glad I decided on the osage combo. The MPM started out with green micarta, but after some issues it was made to match. The black liners really set them off. And to think, they look good and function beautifully. The next one will be a MPX from O1 with micarta handles (more durable for chopping etc.) and a rounded pommel. But I need to save up more funds. The triology will great and I probably won't need to every buy more knives. :D

That’s what I always say before I discover a great new maker.

But seriously, …I love the look of those knives, and I may have just discovered my next new maker; an MPX in A2, …oh yeah. :D

I've heard little of Landi knives, but after seeing them here in action I'm hooked!!! And like TexasTony I'll probably end up getting one someday. Heck I'll probably end up getting the trio of MPKs and the PSK to boot...if only I had enough moolah now.

We didn't use them, but the fit and finish are great, the handle scales are really excellently done. I like the balance and grind on these.

Hey Guys, thanks for all of the kind words on the knives.

I enjoy creating them as much as you enjoy using them, of course I like to chop stuff up too.

Best,
John
