What would you prefer.......
A landyard hole or no hole and the clip give you deeper carry?

If we’re talking about cutting something ASAP, then it’s a clip...you can’t ignore the convenience.
The knife floating around in the bottom of my pocket, then it’s a fob because I won’t need that one RIGHT NOW...unless there’s a beer emergency  (SAKs w/cap lifters always ride in the bottom pocket)

wait...did I misunderstand the op? coffee...must.have.coffee

Pocket clip, but not deep carry - too hard to get a grip on it to get out of pocket. Of course, my beloved SAK Tinker is in my pocket.

I don't have much use for deep carry clips . :(

It's like a cat with it's tail stuck out for all to see , but thinks it's hiding .:p

I want a knife with a fob and enough handle exposed there to grab onto in an emergency.:thumbsup:

I don't prefer or use either.

But it's pretty easy to incorporate them in tandem. Unless this is some sort of money saving question.

I vote lanyard hole. I only occasionally tie lanyards/fobs on my knives, but my personal disdain for deep carry clips has put me off the purchase of more than a few knives over the years. No offense to those who swear by them, just personal preference.

Sheath/pouch clipped in my pocket to keep the knife upright; short lanyard/fob on knife pommel to draw it free (and until I get @MT_Pokt to hook me up, I'm even short on the fob for a few knives). I haven't carried a modern pocket clip-carry knife in years.

As others have said, it's completely about preference. When I got my first "modern" folder in '95, a Cold Steel Voyager 50/50 American tanto point, I thought I'd never go back. Then I carried a Gerber Harsey Air Ranger II and it was my only EDC for about ten years. Those days are gone, though. Forever? Well, never say never.

I prefer deep carry clips. I don't mind lanyard holes, unless the prevent and/or interfere with a deep carry clip.

It's the one thing that annoys me about my Heretic Manticore E. Deep carry clip that doesn't deep carry because of the lanyard hole design.

I don't like too much bulk in my pockets. Left front is my cell phone and AAA olight I3E. Right front wallet and key fob, knife clipped to my pocket.
Everything else in my med bag.

Having a knife loose in my pocket just doesn't work for me, unless it's my mini copperlock. Which is rare.

Split the difference with a buckaroo pouch:

Pull on the thong and your knife comes out of the pocket. Let the pouch hang while you use your knife and then back in the pouch and in the pocket it goes.

By the time you go through all to get your knife the bear will have eaten you :D

Clip every time. Lanyards are bulky, either short and there just for show or too long and turn what is supposed to be a convenient tool like a pocket knife into a handle with a piece of shoestring 3x bigger than the tool itself.

If you learn to tie them right, lanyards can be the perfect length.

I don't even know what that would be. In order to be long enough to reach out of my pocket if the blade is sitting at the bottom of my pocket (where it is going to end up without a clip) it would need to be 8 inches long at least. I dont carry any folding knives that are over 8 inches in length closed. So im more that doubling the length of what is supposed to be a handy tool that takes up minimal space and is with you every day. Im sure it works for some people but for me and my purposes, it makes a small handy tool more unwieldy, prone to snagging on things as I walk, and ultimately it wont play very nice with anything else in my pocket or in adjacent pockets.
