LANDYARD HOLE OR DEEP CARRY CLIP ?

For clipless knives I use a slip with a thin cord tether. I attach the tether to a belt loop and adjust it so it hangs just above the bottom of my pocket. My lanyard hangs out of the top of the slip by 2 or 3 inches. When I want the knife I reach in my pocket, grab the lanyard and yank out the knife. I agree 8" would be to long for a lanyard.

I use the pocket clip but don't care whether it's deep or not. Everybody knows you have a knife just from seeing the clip, deep or not. I like a lanyard around my neck in a big loop for when I'm hunting or hiking to free up pocket space. I have a concealed carry for pistol so I'd never pull a knife in an emergency. So while I like both clip and lanyard hole I'll have to vote for lanyard. Both is ideal though.

I'm with @Knives&Lint regarding deep carry clips--I just don't get why you would want to make a knife harder to pull from your pocket. As mentioned above, even with it riding lower, it's still pretty obvious what you've got there. I don't much care to hide that I'm carrying a knife and given where I am the vast majority of my time it doesn't matter. When rarely in some jurisdiction or situation where my carry is inappropriate, I'll just drop my knife into the bottom of my pocket, carry something smaller and unclipped (maybe in a slip), or--God forbid!--just not carry at all, say if I'm gonna get scanned like at an event or in a government building.

On the other hand, having a deep carry clip won't put me off buying a knife I really like. I tie lanyards (fobs, if you must) on most all my knives, and enjoy them both as personalizing decorations as well as for their help in retrieving from pocket, particularly with a deep carry clip. They're especially useful when in the sitting position. My lanyards tend to be floppy, about the length of the knife, and I prefer to let them hang out of pocket. If I'm concerned about getting them snagged, my knife picked, or being inappropriate I'll just tuck it in. I'm used to having lanyards and it's extremely rare that they get in the way as I expect them to be there.
