im normally not a "nit-picker" & understand wood is a organic material.......BUT...after the wait for shipment & the price of the knife i noticed a rather small imperfection. i intend to carry this knife & did all day yesterday,,,my concern is there is a gap between the liner & the wood scale.

this was taken with a ef 100mm macro 1:2.8L is usm so its really not as big as it appears
im not interested in bothering the folks @ case over it....nor do i wanna wait for it to be repaired
my question is...can i drop a dab of epoxy in the gap & place in a padded vise to close the gap? or just forget about it?

in all other aspects the knife is perfect

I'd do the epoxy repair, if I intended to use and carry the knife. Carefully done, it shouldn't really show, and the gap is now relatively clean.
Of course if I was collecting the knife for posterity, I'd send it back!

Vance, nice knife. What kind of wood? Also another thing to consider, if the cover was not flattened correctly and you pull it down and glue it.It could cause a crack in the cover when the wood tries to move.

Looks to me like the scale is warping away from the liner, which means you might have continued problems in the future.

Send it back.

thanks,
its ebony

Ebony, beauitiful wood, but if you pull it down and glue it.It will crack and check.Send it back.

Not acceptable, particularly on a "premium" knife. Should have been caught in Q.C. Send it back-it's the only way they'll learn.

I agree with SBuzek, Kevin and buckthorn. I´d also would send it back.

Ebony seems to be a very hard wood. I (personally) wouldn´t mess around with it and adding some glue and usinge a vice for repair. I´d send it back with a description for replacement or repair on their cost. I´m sure, that was not a knife lying in a drawer on some hartooldware store, more a special knife and no-low-bugdet-tool.

Have a nice sunday! :)

So, I think the original question was, "can I fill the gap with epoxy?"

I agree with Charlie, you can fill the gap with epoxy. As others have suggested, I would not try to force the wood back to the frame, but I don't think that was your intention.

i guess the general concensus is it needs to go back to the factory

bummer! oh well ill send them a email monday w/ that pic & see where it goes from there

thanks everyone that replied

It appears that your "Red Neck" Bullnose is put together better than your Lanny's Clip. Yeah, I'd send the Lanny's Clip back in this instance.

The clip is a beauty, too bad about the defect. What is the other, matching, knife in this photo?

is a tony bose/case collaboration from 2010. its called a tribal spear..unfortunately i looked & dont have a pic of it with the blade open

I would definitely send that one back. Between the off-centered blade and the liner pulling away from the ebony scale, I would not accept it as a premium knife. Please, send it back.

My thought exactly. Id be extremely unsatisfied with a 100 dollar knife with these issues.

I don't 'get it'. There is so much enthusiastic hype by many here in BF about how fine the Case-Bose collaboration knives are and what a good deal they are for $300-$400. But every year it's the same, multiple posts showing sub-standard knives with defects that you would not expect in even a $60 knife.
My 2012 Lanny's Clip has blade play and lots of light showing between the liners and spring. It is the last new Case knife of any type that i will ever buy.
What i don't get is why people seem to be afraid to state the truth: The Hype far exceeds the Quality in the Case-Bose collaboration knives. And that it's a crap-shoot, you are lucky if you get a good one. And, they are seriously over-priced for what you get.
The only strong points are, the designs are exceptionally fine and the steel is higher end. After this, it's down hill.
Now the sheep will bleat.

Roland, I reluctantly have to agree with you. Reluctant because these knives at this price should be without such obvious quality issues, my own experience put me off.

Yes, I'm sure the gap could be filled with epoxy, but what an idea even having to resort to this.

Everyone hates to send a knife back. It's a real shame that quality-control is so poor that this was missed.
