Is the lankly puck a good choice for sharpening? Its description is a course/medium multi purpose tool sharpener

works fine for me on my hawk and axes. i would recommend it. there are others on the market, but the lansky is the only one i have used.

I have not used the Lansky puck. However, I have an old two sided puck very much like it that I use all the time. With it I can put an edge on an axe, hatchet, or tomahawk that will shave your arm. I consider a good stone a necessity for proper sharpening of all hand axes.

I have one by Smith's that I also use to touch up my machete.

As for lawnmover blades and shovels, I'd go with a file. They are sufficient for good enough edges in a short amount of time. I don't think it is worth the effort to bring shovels and Lawnmover blades to razor sharpness.
