Lansky sharpener question

Tried my gatco on my Izula today after it took a pretty high fall blade on into concrete (ouch!) I got a consistently lower angle on one side of the clamp than the other, even after having to reclamp multiple times. Not to mention the few times the stones hit the clamp because of the thick short grind on the Izula. The stones are pretty decent to freehand with though. ;)

Had a sharpmaker worked great, then some bum stole it. only issue I had with it is I couldn't get a toothey edge with it for all the rope work I do. But thats what DMT course plates are for. :)

Gatco did work great on my mini mustrat that got put to work making a sheath for my izula and 110 yesterday though.

Just don't think its a small RAT friendly system

I have an RC-4 also and was looking into a sharpener. What is recommended? Kind of a new guy with sharpening..

The problem with the clamp systems is the fact most rats are flat ground. Here's just no way to get a good even clamp. The systems are amazing for small saberground pocket knives. I've worn out two lansky systems and my gatco is near toast. I love them for that work. But for big knives and anything flat ground, I like the sharpmaker, and benchstones

I received an RC-4 for Christmas and just got a Sharpmaker for birthday... I was just about to ask the question above myself and am comforted to read Dizwolf's response. :D

Now if I can just find the time to try out the Sharpmaker on all my knives... HAHA Perhaps during this long weekend...one can hope.
