Lansky world legal knife. Your thoughts?

Mine came in while I was on my lunch break today. Here you are:

Give me a gorgeous Case, a utilitarian sak, or a simple opinel for a world legal knife.

I don't need a tiny little brick that well undoubtedly still get confiscated in a police state, whether it follows the letter of the law or not.

Nailed it. Will it outslice any of the knives you mentioned? No. Not with that geometry.

Can you do "hard use" with it? Not with that tiny blade and no lock.

It looks like it does nothing well.

I'll pass.

Agreed. I'll just carry my Cadet Alox to fulfill any role this knife might have tried to accomplish. At least I can open a bottle with the SAK.

I can open a beer bottle with any folding knife...or Bic lighter...or the bottom of a finger ring...etc, etc. LOL

The only real reason that I'm ordering it is because it's definitely NYC legal, and it is a beefy blade with a full sized handle.

Same here, I just enjoy using the tools I carry. I don't carry a Bic and am damn sure not marking up my ST Duponte with the lighter method, so the opener on my Alox is what I use.

This is better looking.

Gotcha. Please don't ever use that lighter to open a beer bottle!

I wouldn't say it's not necessarily a pretty knife, but I would say that it's a unique knife at a price point that makes me want one, just to mess with. The tip actually looks pretty good for doing things like opening those annoying clam shell packages. I'm willing to bet it'll be a huge hit especially since the Responder models are already flying out of online retailers, and I hope Lansky keeps up this quality (from what I've read) and these extremely low prices.

I already have an UT Tuco or I'd get one in a second.
Mikkel is a good dude.

While this folder might be technically compliant with many knife laws around the world, I wouldn't want to test the theory myself. It's a very conspicuous looking folder, imo. Assuming the build quality is good and the specs accurate, I'd still agree with the others who said they'd rather tote a small SAK or traditional folder for compliance purposes. I think they should have just made it a locking one-hander and targeted the small beefy burly folder crowd. Kind of misses both markets for these reasons, me thinks.

I think Lansky will probably sell quite a few due to the affordable price-point, but they're destined to languish in those collections as novelty pieces.

Again, just my opinion. :)

After seeing someone post a pic of this knife over at EDCF, I watched the videos, read what I could, then came over here to see what everyone's
preliminary feelings are about this knife.

Personally, I don't find it "ugly", perhaps somewhat intimidating yes, the marketing that's used by Lansky for this is 'World Legal Urban / Tactial Folder', not 'utillity' folder, so personally if given a choice, I'd rather have this knife with me then a SAK if a defensive situation on a dark street were to suddenly develop.

Utility wise, with that tip I can see easily opening plastic clam shell packages/boxes etc. without having to use the belly of the blade and would prefer this knife to a 'box cutter' in a warehouse work environment, but not at the office wearing a suit environment.

I think the fact that for me, this knife is so inexpensive at $20.00 makes it worth a try.
I'm off to Blade Show next week with a couple of friends, I'm sure Lansky will be there, just may pick one up after checking one out.

Then again, may just get a Mikkel Willumsen Urban Tactical CWC at the show:

I've had mine about two weeks and I have to say that I don't find it ugly at all, the blade makes good sense for opening boxes and clamshell plastic packaging.
What is a big miss for me is the build quality, thrown together with no-one checking them or mine wouldn't have escaped. The blade and lockbar feel like they are edged with sandpaper, much too strong as well. Avoid this one, it'll be a disappointment, pity because I really wanted to like it but it's just too rough.

I just got mine in and I like it for what it is a beefy little knife that adheres to the letter of the law and won't get me in trouble and if they do confiscate it I can buy another for not a lot of money. Sorry to hear about yours but the fit and finish on mine was good and the only sharp edge was the one that's suppose to be sharp. As for the looks of the blade causing trouble I'd just ask the officer if looking scary was against the law.

Bump- I just got one on a trade.
I love it. The knife is built for the hand. Just like a Spyderco.
Get one.
