Hey Guys,
I am looking for a way that I can attach my knife too me with a paracord lanyard, whilst still having full function of the knife. I am always worried when I go fishing that I will drop my knife in. So does anyone know of a simple way to attach a knife to me and still have full function of it???
Thanks
George

If it's a folding knife do a double loop through your belt loop, and put it in your pocket. Leave the lanyard long enough that the knife can still be used with out being removed from your belt.

Thanks I meant like clipped to my belt loop as it will also be used for swimming. brandonc When the knife is clipped what do you do with the excess paracord??

I bought a gun retention lanyard from Blackhawk a while ago. I have used it on my Busse BAD while canoeing several times.

Worked like a charm.

Only problem?

I can't find the sucker after my last trip.

Keep the ideas coming guys!! I hadn't thought about the retractable keychain things, how strong are they? I'll have to give that gun retention lanyard a thought too! Thanks

I don't trust most key chain retractable lanyards - if you go that route, spend the money on the beefiest model you can afford and find.

I flyfish a LOT in rivers mostly but still water too and I stick with the paracord method myself. Not only do I tie the knots well but I also cauterize the knots for added security. Today I only use my Pacific Salt so even if I did lose it, it's not the end of the world but so far I have never lost whatever knife I had with me and that is after 16 years of fly fishing. I haven't lost one knife in the water yet.

And BTW, I wet wade all spring, summer and fall and I still clip the Salt to my waistt band but I let the paracord simply loop to my side. About three feet of it.

I didn't think the keychains looked too strong. I will be using a H1 dragonfly, not the most expensive knife, but for a 14 year old on a tight budget, I really dont want to lose it. I'll give the paracord a go, if its too annoying I'll go with the gun retention lanyard.
Thanks guys

Is there a way to quickly attach/remove it from the knife

I just do another length of paracord if I have to remove the knife or if it gets too short, I keep a lot arond. But you could consider a loop lanyard on the knife and a loop ended paracord length and connect them with a mini biner perhaps . . .
