Lanyard for the Sebenza and Umnumzaan.

Any problems with the mcgizmo clip rotating forward and hitting the point of the blade?

.... The spring on the clip is too big to fit between the scales on the knife so that stops it from actually touching the point of the blade, as long as you clip it on the right way......

Awesome! Oh and can we get a pic of that cf scale????:D

Aye, here you go.....:)

I used Haze's idea, but wanted a quick way of getting my Umnumzaan out of my pocket and came up with this setup which works very well. It's a P-7 suspension clip from TEC and a ti McGizmo clip. What do you guys think?

nice one max, out of curiosity though, even though the mcgizmo clip when connected the right way will stop rotation to the blade, it looks like your TEC clip, could roll forward and hit the blade. How is that situation?

I haven't had any problem with the clip yet. It hangs nice and deep in the pocket so I don't think it could touch the blade.....

I like that idea. :)

One thing you can do to help stop split rings etc. getting between the scales on a knife with a set up like that is to make a "chain". I make small beads out of scrap Ti and use those with two split rings. The beads are too big to fit between the knife scales so would help stop anything touching the point of the knife.

Here is an examlpe of what I'm talikning about. If you have ever wondered what an insane engineers keys look like, now you know. :D

Now I understand what you meant! The TEC clip can't actually fit between the scales to touch the blade because of its attachment to the McGizmo clip. Therefore the thin part can't get near the blade and the thick part won't fit between the sales. I don't know how to explain it properly. I'll try to get a pic up tonight to show what I mean.

Max- that's good then, just by looking at it, it made me think the connecting ring to the mcgizmo/TEC would let it rotate and give the possibility of the TEC hitting the blade when -not- clipped in the pocket.

Since you have that contraption going, did you use an insert in your umnumzaan?

Here are some quick shots:

I have only used this in my Umnumzaan. Will be trying in my large Sebenza soon. I haven't used the clip insert so far. I still want to be able to take off this contraption when at home/weekends and have the clip on the Umnumzaan.

EDIT: Just installed the clip insert to try it and I like it! The handle is even more comfortable without the clip.

Woah! Nice setup!

What's the little knife? And the two other little tools?

Any chance you have more of those Ti beads lying around?

Inspired and Credits to haze for the concept, and bhyde for the awesome tool. Bought titanium clips and rings instead of stainless steel.

I've only had one mishap where i lost a knife in korea in a taxicab. It was clipped to my back pocket, and i guess it caught something on the rush out. I've never had a fall out of the pocket incident with a knife, with other objects yes. This definitely gives peace of mind for a rather high purchase item.

Is this an allen wrench tool?
Where can I get one of those?

Peter

It's a Umnum pivot tool, that a BF'er made before CRK made their delrin ones. I don't think the member makes them anymore. They were made out of Ti. If you weren't careful, you could also scratch your pivot (unless you covered it with something), so the Delrin ones are probably better anyway for most people.

No matter, that the "originals" would be the better choice. I already have them and would love to have one of those as a backup on my keyring.
I never tried, but can you open the Umnumzaan with only one of them?

I don't actually have any beads right now but I make them all the time so I will have some more soon. Drop me a PM and I'll send you a couple next time I make them. :)

That little knife is actually my keys, the other two things are a mini Ti prybar and a Ti Umnumzaan pivot tool.

Here are a couple of pics of said items.....

(The pivot tool does work with only one. The tool from Bhyde and my own one both snap into place on the pivot so they are secure even with only 2 points. If you use a lot of loc-tite then one may have problems breaking the lock with only one. Opening the knife to help brace the pivot can work, but not always).

I just wanted to jump in here and thank Haze for the idea of utilizing the lanyard pin, with the use of the McGizmo Clip, for attaching other lanyards to the knife.

I am one of those who personally like lanyards and use them on all my knives, keys, etc. but I have wished for a way to retain the lanyard pin on my Sebenzas because I like the look and color it adds to the knife.

I have just finished placing an order for a supply of Size 1 McGizmo Clips, observed the correct way of attachment, and am looking forward to trying this innovative idea on my Sebenzas.

Thanks Haze, and a tip of my hat to ya. :)

I am the maker of the tools-I make them when there is enuff vested interest- Have about 10 of them next to me right now. They are definitely not Ti, they are 6061-T6 Aluminum..There were only two made from Ti and I own one of them. I have yet to scratch my umnum with my own tools, but ymmv. I will leave it at that.

On another note-

Nice work Haze! That mini looks pretty cool!
