Lanyard hole a thing of the past on EDC folder?

I understand the reason for a lanyard hole on a fixed blade hunting/survival knife, but is it really needed on EDC folders? Whenever you see something put through the hole it's a 2 inch tassel. What purpose does that serve? Is the lanyard hole of the thing of the past, or a carryover that should be phased out? Do you use the lanyard hole on your EDC folder? Just curious as to what others think.

Same as everything else in this hobby, some people like it, some dont. That is the sum of all opinions.

For me. I like the option.

I have never used a lanyard on a pocket knife BUT I saw that at least one BF member fill the hole with a tube of tritium
That provides an ever glowing little light at the end of the knife that is very cool looking and helps you find your knife if you drop it in the dark.
Not a wise idea for tactical knife use but then in that case, you have other issues :)

My fixed blades get lanyards, long enough to slip my hand through, my folders if there's a hole will get some kind of fob/lanyard to as sit in pocket removal and for smaller blades it allows me to extend my grip using the lanyard/fob for a better grip.

I don't think they're dyin' or should be phased out, it's essentially a matter of preference.

I certainly hope so! I have no use for lanyard holes, and especially dislike when they force makers/companies to compromise on clip placement (like on the PM3):

I don't think they take too much away from a knife but I don't use them. I will say I think if a knife has one it should be large enough for para cord

I find a lanyard hole useful for a fob, especially if I'm carrying a folder in a pocket sheath. I made one for my 21 and the fob - just a knotted leather thong -- makes it easier to extract. I'd use a lanyard only when carrying in an open boat to prevent loss, a rare instance. Lanyards are a safety hazard when using a knife, I find; too easy to get tangled up on things, and they just get in the way.

i dont like them. give me a pocket clip and im fine. limited users use the lanyard hole, but enough that it make it a demand for makers to include one.
