Lanyard hole just decoration or what?

There are probably a hundred more good ideas for securing a knife using a lanyard hole, and they all depend on one thing -- a lanyard hole. Granted a lanyard can get in the way of some tasks, but for me there are more positives than negatives.

On a Sebenza I have used the lanyard to hold the clipless knife upright in my front pocket. Doesn't work as well in the back. And G2 sheaths do the job so much better. Gary did put one on my Umfaan (thanks again Gary) to help get the tiny knife out of the sheath. That one serves well.

Camping/Hiking/Boating lanyards are a must. Loop around a belt, or wrist when in use.

Otherwise I mostly don't use them.

The CRK Sebenza and Umfaan do have holes in the titanium slabs from the machining process, but these aren't the lanyard holes. They are located at the back of the cut for the integral lock.

Thanks for clearing that up, Of course due to my financial situation, I was making my assumption on the hole, sight unseen.

A local Colorado hunter showed me the simplest trick for a small knife with a lanyard hole. Pull the lanyard down between your belt and your jeans -- no need to tie it off, just the pressure of the belt will hold it firmly in place, even with only a small knot. Of course a small chunk of bone or antler on the end looks cooler.

I always use a lanyard on my knife if there's a risk of dropping it where I won't be able to retrieve it. This applies to boating situations, or even working up in a tree. Like the posters above, I prefer a monkey-fist knot that I can tuck back into a loop in the lanyard, after passing it through a belt loop on my jeans (see below). This way you can detach the lanyard easily, but the knot secures the knife in the event it gets dropped.
