Hey guys. I'm looking to put a lanyard hole in my Opinel, and was wondering about the copper looking tube that some people put in their lanyard holes. First, is it actually just copper tubing from the hardware store? And how do you finish the ends? I've seen some that look flavored on the ends, but I'm not sure how to do this. Thanks.

I've used brass tubing and it works and looks great. Remember, when using tubing the hole required is very large so you need to have that much room 3/16" or 1/4". After cutting it, gluing and sanding it to fit the spot the inside will need some deburring. This can easily be done by using sandpaper around a rod or the paper rolled tightly around its self or a round file, a round diamond sharpening rod, ect.. Its not difficult, you can think it thru. Another tip is to flare the ends of the tubing before the glue sets - this will make it more stable. Depending on the size, you can use something like a nail set or punch, set it in the tube and lightly tap with a hammer. Be gentle so you don't split the tube.

Chamfer the hole the tubing goes in, and then flare the tubing to fit the chamfer. file/sand flush.
