Lanyard holes on folders.......are they really useful?

I tend to have a love / hate relationship with lanyards. I find that they annoy me when I am trying to close the knife simply because I have to make sure that it hasn't gotten in the way. But I do enjoy them when it comes to aiding the removal from my pocket. I find that they are really helpful when I'm either kneeling down or sitting down to help me remove the knife from my pocket, especially if they are on a knife that has a deep carry pocket clip.

That bothered me until I started thing them so they are tight to the backs and not flopping in front.

If I'm going on a boat, a lanyard is fine. Otherwise, I never use them. I also don't like things bumbling around in my pockets. Everything is clipped to me and my knife draw is hindered by lanyards.
