Lanyard ideas?

Hey guys. I need some lanyard ideas and materials. When i first got my large 21, i wasn't really crazy about the lanyard. I wanted to keep the blue pin but in order to do that i needed to keep the lanyard. So i said to myself, if i don't like the lanyard after a week or two, i'll take it off and sacrafice the pin. Well, it has actually done more good than annoy. So now, i want to liven it up a bit. Any ideas?

Liven it up? Not sure. Got my new Umnumzaan yesterday, and wondering to do with that piece of rope hanging off the end of my knife. Use it or lose it?
I don't have any practical need to keep it, but would like to keep the pin, so would have to secure that with something...
Maybe the experienced folks here could help us out a bit.
And you say the lanyard is a good thing on your Sebbie? How is that?

Yeah. It really does. Sometimes if I go to grab the knife it slips or is held in my pocket very well and I need to use it as leverage or to get a better grip.

If I remove the lanyard, will the pin just fall out? I'm thinking of removing the lanyard and putting in a small nylon cable tie, and clipping off any excess length. This would remove the lanyard while making sure that I don't misplace the pin.
This knife carries at much the same height as my BenchMades and Spydercos, which I've carried EDC for many yrs without incident. I am able to pull this knife, using my thumb and index finger, without using the "rope", quite easily and will probably just put the rope into the CRK box.
No complaints at all. I guess if I were going to hike the Appalachian Trail, I would welcome a lanyard for more security.

Yes, it will fall out. What i've heard of people doing is cutting the paracord small enough and putting it through the lanyard pin hole and heating the ends together to make a small ring. that way it doesn't fall out, but it also doesn't show. I think a cable tie would look cheap on such a nice knife. The small sebenza pin will stay in with or without the lanyard, but the large isn't so lucky.

I had the lanyards on both my large and small, but decided to take them off a few months ago for a couple of reasons.

1) They are easy to snag on stuff. I would hate to have the knife snag on say a branch while hiking.

2) The lanyard wasn't very discreet and thus drew too much unwanted attention. I actually had a coworker grab my knife and slip it out of my pocket once. Lucky for me (and him), I know the guy and was able to tell him "nicely" that he shouldn't ever do that again. Imagine though if you were in a crowded place (trolley, stadium, etc.) and someone was able to slip the knife out without you realizing?

I have many of the same apprehensions about having a lanyard on my 'Zaan as calypso. However there are also many situations in which I find one quite convenient.
I used to keep the lanyard attached to the pin and when I wanted it I would break the knife down and put the pin/lanyard in. This turned out to be quite the hassle as I basically use the lanyard every weekend and take it out monday morning.
What I do know is use a simple lanyard knot with no other weaving; I can tie one of these quickly and easily around the pin while it is in the knife. I just cut it off Friday night and since I use about a 6" piece every time a 100' bundle should last me about four years...

Edit: In terms of losing the pin, cant you just keep it in the box along with its B-day card? That's what I do

I did this to mine

You and JustSomeDude are right. It would look cheap. I untied that cord and put it in my CRK box. Stuck a big safety-pin through the Pin so it doesn't get lost and put that in the box also. I'll just used to the empty hole in the knife; probably easiest that way. The "double-sure" pocket-clip rides deep and that is a fine idea in my book. I've never lost a knife and I've carried BM's and Spydies that way for many yrs. Appreciate your ideas.

I got some CRK titanium beads and learned to tie the new style lanyard. I really like the look of these and have used them for awhile now.

I think that tonight I'm going to put the pin back in, then fill the hole in the pin with Silicone Seal (clear) until it oozes out the other end, then let it set up. Would hope to have a little bead on both ends. It's just rubber, easy to get rid of, but if I get it in there right, it'll be good forever.
Or, I'll just coat the pin on the shaft and stick it in the hole and let it dry. I suspect that's a better idea, for me, and that it'll stay just fine. That silicone seal is like a light glue, of course it works for bathtub seals and that sort of thing. I use it a lot. I use to fix gasoline leaks on my bike's gastank with that stuff.

Those CR lanyard beads are sweet, mind if I ask where you got them?

paracord.com and plazacutlery.com.

Here is the same type of knot with no bead. I like this type of knot with the laynard because if you start really close to the end of the knife it won't rotate down and hit the tip of the knife and cut the paracord.

Good looking lanyards. What type of knot is that?

I use this when it's needed but I'm not a big fan of having lanyards on my knives, generally speaking.

I like a lanyard on my knife. I carry my knives in a belt sheath and the lanyard makes it a lot easier to draw the knife from the sheath. Here is what I have tied onto one of my Sebenza's.
