lanyard on knife, or flashlight, or both?

I have, what I would call Fob's, on my knife and my light. It makes them both much easier to access. Just a pull of the appropriate string and I'm all set. I have a Signet on my BM552M2 and a Monkey fist on my Novatac 120P.

if you need a lanyard, your doing it wrong

Perhaps...but sh!t happens. If everything went perfect we'd carry one knife, no cop would have a backup, no car would have seatbelts or airbags, holsters wouldn't have retention devices, parachutes wouldn't exist, our kids wouldn't wear helmets on their bikes, and so on and so forth. Pray for the best, prepare for the worst.

Well, you won;t need a lanyard if your knife's in the river..... you'll need another knife....maybe.

I use lanyards all the time

There a retention lanyards that attach the knife or flashlight to my belt.
I carries a folder for years in the army, never lost it.
They are also good for pocket carry of a small fixed blade, so when you pull on the knife the sheath comes out of you pocket only so far, then the knife pulls out the sheath.

There is a loop lanyard, which is a loop to wrap round my hand, or hang on my wrist.
Very good for working and letting go of the knife.

Then there are fobs on the end of a knife to extend the lenght of the knife or to pull it out of the sheath.

In the army we had two lanyards, one round the shoulder iinto the top pocket for whistles, and a neck lanyard for a pistol.

Anyone know of a site that shows how to tie different knots and lanyard making? I almost bought a sailor knot tying book just for this reason but the book was 40 bucks so I said forget it. Id really like to know how to make some nice lanyards though...

And to answer the op I have lanyards on some of my fixed blades none on my folders although Id like to. My flashlight rides on a clip and doesnt have one either.

My EDC knife is typically a traditional slippie, so no to the lanyard. The flashlight is on a key chain with a Leatherman Squirt in my laptop bag.
