Lanyard pin question

Can I just untie them and leave the lanyard pins in place or do the pins need to be removed to prevent any rattling?

From what I've read searching on the forums, the umnumzaan and large sebenza lanyard pins only stay in when the lanyard is still attached. Is this still correct with the current models?
 
The large sebenza and the umnumzaan pins will slip out without the lanyard holding it in, the small sebenza lanyard pin has stepped shoulders to keep it in place,
you can leave a small piece of cord in the pin and melt the ends to keep the pin in place.
 
Untying the lanyard will work perfect then. Thanks for the responses.
