I've read here most seem to think a lanyard is not necessary some saying it could even be dangerous on a BK9 or other large size knife.

Earlier I was looking at the "Photos - Post your Becker knives pics here" thread and noticed a lot of Beckers sporting lanyards most it seemed using 550 cord for said lanyard.

I am planning on adding one to my BK9 but it wont be 550 cord (aka para cord) and will obviously add pictures upon completion.

So what say you yes or no do you have/use a lanyard on your Becker knife/knives if so lets get a look ?

I like a small lanyard on the big knives, but more decorative/bright(find it if you drop it kinda thing) not big enough to wrap around my wrist. It just seems like a bad idea to me with a chopper. To much could go wrong and hurt myself pretty bad. On the other hand, like someone here said before, better it stay attached to me and hurt me than fly off and hurt a family member or friend. So I guess my official response is, alone = no lanyard. With the fam = lanyard.

I have small hands so i like having the lanyard to hold on to but not so long that it's out of control or dangerous.but what do i know....

Yes, I have 3 lanyards and will put them onto which ever knife I'm taking into the field.

Ask Moose about using a lanyard.

Ol'leatherneck that bead is actually some type of exotic fruit seed....was a b...h to drill thru...

I'm a fan of lanyards. I like brightly colored cord just in case you misplace it. Also, a small loop is nice...if you have ever dropped anything in an ice fishing hole, you will understand.

My lanyard is a loop of 550 that is separate from the knife. I stick a piece of the loop through the lanyard hole then thread the loop back through itself. I'm sure there's an actual name for the type of knot when you run a loop through itself like this but I'm not sure what it is. This way I can have the lanyard on or off in a matter of seconds.

Below is what I'm doing for a lanyard keep in mind the 9 will be wearing Bocote wood scales from tommythewho (his photo below) and I also plan to strip the blade for a forced patina.
When not in use the lanyard can be adjusted (3rd picture) or easily removed.

I have no-snag lanyards on a lot of my Beckers. Easily removable if need be, and adjustable in a lot of different ways. If you leave them on the knife and slide the tension not all the way to the lanyard knot, it eliminates the loop, so they won't snag on brush and branches (theoretically).

Easy to adjust as well, just pull the knot back, put your hand through, then pull one of the tag ends.

I got smaller hands as well, and tired + grip a little large = lanyard. Plus the bright ones make it easier to find your knife when you set it down in the woods.

All of my big Beckers have lanyards. Slide the lanyards towards The handle when in the sheath so they don't snag when I'm out amongst the sticks.

The only big Becker I have is my Machax. I have chopped with it pretty extensively and never used a lanyard.

I made a lanyard out of black 550 cord for my BK2.

I ran it through the hole in the pommel and attached it using what I believe is called a larkshead knot (same one rokclmb used above). I closed it with about 1-inch of cobra wrap and then created about a 1-inch cobra wrap slider to cinch it down on my wrist.

In retrospect, I would have chosen a brighter color (I have some rescue red left; may do that). But I am of the opinion that if it slips, I don't want it flying completely uncontrolled. I also always wear gloves for chopping to help improve the grip.

I like to tie my lanyards with two diamond knots. One right off the handle and another to make the loop. It may take a bit of effort to get the length right and everything tight, but I think it's worth it.

I use lanyards with all my blades that are primary "choppers". I like to keep them with just enough slack around the wrist that as I'm chopping....I almost let go of the knife right before the blade makes contact with the material I'm chopping. This allows for a more efficient strike and keeps the knife from sliding completely out of my hand.

I also like a lanyard on my choppers.

Nothing special, just a paracord loop.
MrKnot: your username would suggest something a little more fancy in the way of....well....knots. Unless that is your actual name. ;), JK.
BTW, what do you think of those Kershaws, and which ones are they?
