Lanyards for Spydies

Anyone have experience with using lanyards with your Spydie folders. If you use the pocket clip to carry, does the lanyard get in the way? If you carry deep pocket, is it useful. In your experience do they add to the bulkiness of your girl. Finally what type work best? I have seen a myriad of them and where can I get one? Thanks in advance for the advice and experiences

For me lanyards are too much bling other than hunting knives there just in the way but to each there own:yawn:

I use a lanyard on my clipless Spydies. Carrying lose in the pocket, a lanyard helps me draw out the knife and keep it oriented upwards in the pocket. I also used to keep a simple one on my smaller Spydies just to give myself a four-finger grip.

Time for pictures because what thread isn't better with pics!

I will put a lanyard on a couple of my Spyderco knives in the winter if I plan on wearing gloves. It makes it very easy to get the knife out of the pocket with gloves on, and since it's a Spyderco, I can open the knife with gloves on too!

I guess if you are wearing gloves any time of year, a lanyard could help.

Really I have the creative process of a monkey. Lol

There's tons of tutorials on youtube for how to make cool lanyards. I only had a foot or so of paracord so I just went with simple functional loops but there are a ton of cool ones you can do.

I use 550 cord on most of my knives, if done correctly it really can help with fast deployment (which I want for my Matriarch and Tasman Salt especially). You can get 550 (or 325) cord very cheaply at places like Michaels or online.

These are four of my small Spydies with short lanyards with false turks head stopper knots, i have the stopper so it enables me to have a four finger grip and makes using the Spydie hole for one hand opening easy, i have removed the clip from the Spin making it much slimmer ,the lanyard makes pulling the knife from your pocket easier no matter if you have dropped your knife into your main pants pocket or the watch pocket ( my favourite ). Hope this is of some help..

Hey Murph, I use them on some, but not all, of my knives. They are especially useful on some of my fishing knives "spyderco salts" that I carry in my waistband. They help me access the knife wile in a seated position (kayak) and also make it easier to hold onto. I also tie these with enough loop to slip over my wrist, which I do when I'm on the water and have a big fish flopping around. They can be fun and useful depending on how you use your knife.

But don't buy one!! Half the fun is getting some paracord and tying them yourself. Search youtube and find a good simple how to video (there's hundreds) and just follow along. I have zero patience for such stuff and even I have made some really cool ones and there was nothing to it. Get yourself a couple of colors of paracord and give it a shot! You will enjoy the results much more that way.

Suerte,

Lance

Another vote for making them yourself. I'm about the least creative person you'll ever meet, but I still have a lot of fun making key fobs, lanyards and other little knot work pieces. As others have said just go look at YouTube. Other than just searching for "paracord lanyard" you could also look at:

crown sinnet
diamond knot
two strand Mathew Walker not

Of course, if you want some real inspiration, there is no better place than the blog of one of the Blade Forum members: http://stormdrane.blogspot.com

I usually tie a snake braid on folders with deep carry clips to help draw them from my pocket. I find it easier to reach 2-3 fingers in and grab the blade than to grab the end of the knife. I prefer snake braids over open loop lanyards as the seem to interfere less with retrieving other non-knife things from my pockets. I prefer cords smaller then 550 myself. It's personal pref but I can tie smaller cord in a tighter pattern so I feel it looks better in addition to being less bulky.

A great site for paracord and lanyard work is http://stormdrane.blogspot.ca/. He's the reason I've become a spydie addict. I was searching for some lanyard tips a few years ago and stumbled on his blog. He had some great lanyards attached to some great knives with holes in the blade which I'd never seen before. I just had to have one of those knives! Several dozen Spyderco knives later and I can't seem to stop myself from wanting more. Be careful what you search for ....

I know my new edc came today, Caly 3.5 G-10, VG10, and I am in wonder. It bumped my Persistence into a drawer for I don't know how long.
