Lanyards for Spydies

I think she needs a lanyard. Maybe I'll give it try. Most of the time I'm like a monkey humping a football when it comes to something like this. Lol

I often tie and untie lanyards several times before I get it the way I want it.

I made a sinnet and used it as a fob for a SAK. It only lasted about two weeks before I had to repair some ones luggage handle for them. It died a noble death:D.

I know my new edc came today, Caly 3.5 G-10, VG10, and I am in wonder. It bumped my Persistence into a drawer for I don't know how long.

Once you bend that clip the other knife will make its way out of the drawer. My personal record of keeping one of those wire clips intact was 2.5 weeks on my recent dragonfly purchase. Then it was back to the old faithful Delica.

Great looking knife btw. I reeaalllyyy want one but I am hell on those clips.

This knife carries so much deeper than any other. It really disappears into me pocket, and for its size it is light. I've read those two factors combined remedy any clip issues. I don't know I just got it, but I will keep u informed.

Hmmm. I have a caly3.5 and dragonfly with the wire clip as well as a manix2 Lw. Never had an issue with bending. I guess we all expose out gear to different levels of use/abuse. It should also be noted I swap out my EDC all the time though so that evens out wear on my knives. There are just too many choices in my knife Drawer.

The wire clip has held up fine for me. I love the way it just disappears against your pocket. Any clip will bend if you have the bad luck to snag it on something. In 25+ years of carrying Spydercos and Chris Reeve Sebenzas I've bent more than a few. Most of the time they can be re-shaped with a vise, if not they are easily replaced. For me the biggest concern with a clip is whether it wears out the edge of my pocket--I like to keep my jeans until they are so faded and worn they are falling apart. Usually the pocket where I carry my knife is the first place to go.

This is what another member did for the Techno. I like it and it goes with the back spacer!

I have decided after reading your posts and carrying my Caly I am not going to lanyard this knife. For me, it would ruin the amazing ergonomics of her. She is slim and light, disappears in my pocket, and silently awaits her retrieval. Thank you for all the information and maybe my Persistence or future millie or pm2 will beckon for one.

Give on a try at least once on whatever knife you choose. I was pretty... well very anti lanyard till a few weeks ago. A member here tossed one in that he made with a knife I bought from him. Since he went through the trouble to make it I owed it a shot. Put it on my stretch and love it.

I only do lanyards if it is in my pocket.
SAKs
Makes it easy to fish out.

On knifes clipped to my pocket. Never.
Easier to get lost.. Snagged on something or sticky fingers.

Hey :
Can you attach a lanyard to a Sage1 or 2 model around the rear pillar without risk of damaging the knife? Would this even be feasible?

Well, monkeys can use tools so there is some hope for you. :)

My good laugh of the day :D - Rev - you are a devil  Thanks for the perfect funny reply.

And yes - if you can tie your shoes you can make a knife lanyard.

I specified using the word attach. Just curious about any structural damage that might occur to the knife if a lanyard is tied to the rear back spacer/post.
Any insight with respect to this question is greatly appreciated.

I use a lanyard on my Tasman Salt since it's usually being used when I'm out on the boat, which is 2-3 days a week this time of year (I live walking distance from my marina) and also on my Resilience since I removed the clip and usually just put in my pocket so the lanyard makes it easier to get out.

As far as making lanyards, it's really not that hard...get some 550 (or 325) cord from a common craft store (not going to say the name) for $3 or so and just play around with it, it really isn't that hard. Personally, I'm not into beads etc. but many are and I'm sure you can find what you are looking for on BladeHQ or other sponsoring retailers.
