l LOVE LANYARD

If you ever need to repel to safety, you’re covered!

I've used all sorts of knives, fixed and folding, and when I put a lanyard on it ends up staying on only on fixed blades.

The convenience of having one isn't discussed here: they make the knife easier to retrieve from pocket or waistband, they help finding it when dropped, they make it a better chopper and they look cool.

I really love a good pinky lanyard on my big Cold Steel folders, so good for chopping and clearing brush.

The problem I have with them is that they get in the way when I flick the pocket knife open, and especially when I close it: I end up ruining them and ultimately I remove them out of rage.

Maybe it's me being too much of a fidgeter, but I really can't stand them for long.

How do you guys cope with that? Not hating, just curious.

Maybe any tips?
I can see the value of a lanyard in risky environments, such as while on the water to prevent the knife from accidently dropped overboard; and also see the use sometimes with heavier knives to help with retention, but I see no value in the usual knife fob thing.

This CRK is my only knife with a fob. I usually take them off my CRKs at the first disassembly/cleaning, but I left this one on. The fobs don't really bother me all that much, but after I remove them, they bother me even less.

Nope. If I am grabbing a flexible tail then the knife is not in my hand and transitioning to a full grip on the knife adds more time and fumbling to acquire a good hold. By that time I've already lost the advantage I had if any. From pocket to hand is all I need.

My opinions..
There are a few folder designs that are elevated by the right lanyard/bead combo. There's a fine line between functional and aesthetically pleasing, and unnecessary & gaudy.

Fixed blades (especially smaller ones carried scout style) are much more frequently improved with the presence of a small lanyard with or without a bead.

Get in to knife fights often?

Not often enough to hone my skills. I see no reason to make it more difficult to use a knife so no tassels for me. What's worse is it's a hey look at me I have something in my pocket when carrying should be under the radar.

A lanyard tethers something to your person. I don’t love lanyards, but when I’m out fishing you better believe I have a length of paracord attaching my prized tools to my person.

But hey, some people love to play with fire and wait for that bad day to come.
