lanyards, tethers, sinnets, lucets, knots, rope, line, cordage, gimp

There's something primal about weaving. I wanted me a faja (woven belt) like the Argentinian Gauchos wear (see attached pic from www.soyguacho.com), but couldn't find a good source for them. So I did some research, ran across the Guatemalan backstrap loom, made one, and got 'r done. :D

Very cool Bladite, thanks a lot. I was into knot tying when I was younger, but have lots more to learn. For now I would like to learn how to do a simple cord wrap and lanyard for some of my knives. Many thanks for the references.

I am a knoted person, as a rock climbing instuctor my life and the lives of my clients frequently depend on my knot ability. And Im good at it, exept for braiding/decorative knots.

I cannot understand why I can learn functional knots very easily and understand the physics of them but not dcorative knots.

I'm lucky to have a Mother and Sister that are both fanatical weavers, spinners, tatters, knitters and caners. My sister keeps a blog all about this sort of this, mostly knitting. She has pretty extensive knowledge and will respond to any questions regarding these "lost arts". Here is a bit about caning.http://lost-arts.blogspot.com/search/label/chair caning

And the blog in general, lots of info and more daily life stuff mixed in as well.
